A coin is a flat, round piece of metal used to as a medium of exchange. For thousands of years, human societies across the world have minted coins to act as the physical form of money, and they have been vital to the emergence of state economies.
Usage
The Animus, enabling people to revisit times past in virtual reality simulations, simulated the historical currencies of any time period or country that used coins.[1]
These included the drachmae in ancient Greece[2] and Egypt;[3] silver dirhams within the Abbasid Caliphate's lands;[4] silver and gold in Anglo-Saxon England;[5] florins (ƒ),[1][6] ducats,[7][8] reales (R),[9][10] and escudos[11] throughout Europe from the 13th to 20th century; akçe (
) in Ottoman Constantinople;[12] mon (文) in Sengoku period Japan;[13] doubloons in the West Indies during the Golden Age of Piracy;[9][14][15] livres (£) in Revolutionary France;[16] the pound sterling (£) throughout the United Kingdom[17] and its colonies in North America[18][19] and India;[20]as well as écu in French Colonial Louisiana.[21]
In addition, sometimes special coins were used, such as Assassins' coins collected by the Louisianian Assassin Aveline de Grandpré[21] and the Templar coins collected by the Levantine Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.[22]
