Adéwalé (1692 – unknown) was a former slave from Trinidad, and a member of the Assassin Order. During the Golden Age of Piracy, he was also Edward Kenway's quartermaster aboard the Jackdaw.
When Edward (who had been posing as turncoat Assassin Duncan Walpole) was captured by the Templars and placed on a prison ship headed for Spain, he was shackled alongside Adéwalé in the hold. Working together, the two escaped and neutralized the ship's crew; they then freed the prison fleet's pirate captives and absconded with one of the ships for their own use. Edward would later christen it the Jackdaw and make Adéwalé his quartermaster in return for his assistance.
Adéwalé taught Edward how to repair the Jackdaw and recruit crew members. Around the year 1715, Adéwalé pointed out scenes of interest to his captain, who could then intervene or ignore them.
In 1722, after years of serving under Edward as the Jackdaw's quartermaster, Adéwalé decided to set down a new path by joining the Assassin Order. Before Edward returned to England, he gifted the island of Great Inagua to Adéwalé and the Assassin Mentor Ah Tabai for use as a new base of operations.
Eight years later, in 1730, Adéwalé found himself shipwrecked on the island of Saint-Domingue without a crew or weaponry. It was here that he found himself confronted once again with the realities of the slave trade.
Trivia

- Ubisoft confirmed that one of the single-player downloadable content additions included within the Season Pass will be focusing on Adéwalé's life, which is named Freedom Cry.[2]
- Adéwalé is the second playable character to not be related to Desmond Miles in any way, with the first being Aveline de Grandpré.
