Brendan Angelides is a American composer and music producer, also known under the stage names Eskmo and Welder. He was responsible for crafting the soundtrack for Assassin's Creed: Mirage.[1]

Biography

Early life and career

Brendan Angelides was born in Massachusetts, and raised in a small town in Connecticut. He began composing and releasing music as early as 1999 as an independent artist. His first album released under a label was Vines and Streams in 2006 which he released as Welder. He released his first album as Eskmo in 2010, and later went on to compose the soundtracks for all four seasons of the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why and Showtimes Billions.[2]

Assassin's Creed

In 2022, Angelides was approached by Ubisoft to compose the soundtrack for the then-upcoming video game, Assassin's Creed: Mirage. He first composed the single "Into the Light" for the Cinematic World Premiere trailer, from a series of mood boards and drawings supplied to him by Ubisoft.[3] Mirage marked Angelides' first foray into video game soundtracks, and he was surprised to be asked, reflecting that "[he didnt know if [he] was the right person for the job" due to his largely electronic music genre repertoire. For inspiration and influence he asked for advice from his Tunisian artist and performer friend Emel Mathlouthi, and Iraqi-born Jordanian violinist Layth Sidiq, who was also the artistic director of the New York Arabic Orchestra. Sidiq then introduced him to the Palestinian composer and orchestrator, Akram Haddad—then working as a professor at the New England Conservatory—for further instruction and collaboration.[4]
