The Emirate of Córdoba was an Islamic kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula during the Medieval period. The kingdom was founded by Abd al-Rahman I, a prince of the Umayyad dynasty which had been overthrown and desposed by the Abbasid dynasty.[1] Abd al-Rahman fled from the capital of Damascus and established an independent emirate in 756, making Córdoba its capital.
In the 9th century, the emir Abd al-Rahman II established many trade routes, including the city of Dublin in Ireland, which allowed the kingdom to flourished. His son Muhammad I continued and maintained trade with the trading post in Dublin, manned by the Persian trader Azar.[2]
