Aulus Gabinius (died c. 47 BCE) was a Roman statesman and general prominent during the latter days of the Roman Republic.

In 55 BCE, Gabinius was sent by Pompey to Egypt to assist the pharaoh Ptolemy XII Auletes in restoring his kingdom. After doing so, he left 2,000 troops in the city and charged them with protecting the pharaoh and the royal family. These troops later came to be known as the Gabiniani.[1]
