Woken up by screams. You rush out of your house to see Jade Spring Village burning at the hands of Qin soldiers in purple uniforms. You rush forward, looking for Chu Huan and hoping to save whoever you can.

[...]

As you step through the waterfall, the enemy commander descends upon you, blade drawn. Chu Huan throws you aside anf gest impaled in yor stead. Numerous purple-clad Qin soldiers appear around you, forcing you to run, leaving the lifeless eyes of your sworn brother behind and the face of his murderer burned into your memory.

[As protag leaves Meng Tian's house, Yu Ying calls out to them]

• Yu Ying: Over here!

[protag approaches]

• Yu Ying: Glad to see you made it out in one piece.
• Wei Yu's disciple: The general says that the purple Qin troops are acting out of his command.
• Yu Ying: So then who does commands them?
• Wei Yu's disciple: He isn't sure but he suspects whoever it is working with the Xiongnu.
• Yu Ying: The Xiongnu... I saw some of the general's troops taking some Xiongnu to Yangzhou Prison.
• Wei Yu's disciple: Yes, he told me he was rounding them up. If they're working with these purple Qin soldiers, one of them might know more. If we can offer them freedom... Maybe they can help us.
• Yu Ying: You want to break them out? Of the great general's prison?
• Wei Yu's disciple: We don't know a single thing about the Xiongnu. Their customs, traditions, ways of life. If we want to travel beyond the wall to find out their connection to Chu's murderer, we need to find an insider. Even if that means breaking into the general's prison.
• Yu Ying: I... You're right. Follow me. I know exactly where the prison is.

A Difficult Reunion

• Wei Yu's disciple: I have to keep going... I have to meet Yingying at the safe house. She's waiting for me... I hope they haven't found the safe house. Yingying, wait for me. I'm almost there.

[protag arrives at a high point, looks at the safehouse to see Yu Ying captured by the purple soldiers]

• Purple Sergeant: Stay still, little girl, or this blade will be the last thing you see.

[to themselves]

• Wei Yu's disciple: I should take them out silently, or they might use Yingying as a hostage. One wrong move and it's over.

[jumps onto a haystack below and starts assassinating the soldiers stealthly]

• Purple Soldier: Look out and keep your eyes sharp.
• Purple Soldier: I think I heard something.
• Purple Soldier: More Youxia might arrive.

[kills all, releases Yu Ying] Now free, Yu Ying asks after Chu Huan. A grim silence falls as you eliver the heavy news, but Yu Ying encourages you not to blame yourself for his death. You pick yourself up, but before you say more, a snapping branch betrays the presence of a purple-clothed soldier who has been spying on you, and he starts to flee.

• Wei Yu's disciple: Stop right there!
  You sure can run! But you can't outrun a youxia.
  I'll make him talk when I get my hands on him.

[Follows dude into an ambush]

• Wei Yu's disciple: It's time for payback.

[fight, kills] You finish off all but one of the attacking soldiers, but before you can interrogate him, an arrow pierces him through the chest, silencing him. You trace it back to Nie Jing, who vengefully claims justice for the village. She blames the Grand General for the attack, knowing that only he has the ability to command such a massive force. [Yu Ying aproaches protag and Nie Jing]

• Wei Yu's disciple: If the Grand General is truly after us, we will need to inform our contacts in Yangzhou city before it's too late. Yu Ying, do you know where we can find our contacts in Yangzhou?
• Yu Ying: Old Fan lives near the Yangzhou winery and Big Chef frequents the market for ingredients.
• Wei Yu's disciple: Alright, leave them to me.
• Yu Ying: Then I'll gather the remaining survivors from around our village.
• Nie Jing: I... I won't be sticking around. I'm laying low in the north till this blows over.
• Wei Yu's disciple: I understand... This is a Youxia problem. You shouldn't stick close to us.

[She goes to leave, but turns back]

• Nie Jing: Word of advice. Meet your contacts at Yangzhou's back gate where the stables are. It's the fastest route out.
• Yu Ying: Thank you, Jingjing. Till we meet again.
• Wei Yu's disciple: Jing, you may not be a Youxia, but you are still part of our family.

The Survivors of Yangzhou

• Wei Yu's disciple: Time to visit Yangzhou city. I hope Old Fan and Big Chef are still alive.

[this next line cuts off the previous one]

• Wei Yu's disciple: Grand General Meng Tian... Why does his name sound so foreboding... I'll look into the military movements once I've warned Old Fan and Big Chef.

[Does the 2 minor quests]

• Wei Yu's disciple: I've spoken to everyone. Now it's time to find out what the Grand General has been up to.

[goes to Yangzhou General's Residence. There, he finds a scroll]

The General's Reply

The division leaving camp last night without permission has raised serious doubts concerning their dispatch orders. The General has ordered a thorough investigation, and the officers concerned are instructed to report to the Grand General at the Great Wall camp.

• Wei Yu's disciple: Grand General Meng Tian requests the urgent presence of the commander who led an attack on a village... ... my village! Seems like the grand general [sic] may be involved after all. Time to head to the back gate. Old Fan would want to hear about this. With everyone gathered, we should look for a new village.

[Leaves the general's house]

• Wei Yu's disciple: I wonder how many survivors Yingying found. I wonder what Master Wei Yu will say when he returns.

[goes to the gate, finds a bunch of people dead and Yu Ying fighting the purple soldiers]

• Purple soldier: Get them all. Spare no one!
• Yu Ying: You bastards will regret this!
• Wei Yu's disciple: No! They took out almost everyone!

[joins the fight]

• Yu Ying: You monsters! Leave us alone!
• Wei Yu's disciple: Who sent you! Answer me! Was it General Meng Tian? Who is your captain?
• Purple soldier: I'll shut this one up.
  Why won't you stay down?

[kills them all] With the Qin soldiers defeated, Yu Ying rushes forward and crouches over a corpse that's been crushed under a carriage. Numbly, she tell you that she is the only survivor. With grim determination, you show her the letter from the Grand General, swearing to avenge your people, and march off to the construction camp to find him.

Notify Old Fan

[Goes into the courtyard of Old Fan's house]

• Wei Yu's disciple: Old Fan! Are you there? Old Fan!

[Tries to open door, hears something]

• Wei Yu's disciple: What was that sound? Sounds like Old Fan had an accident. I should find a way in.

[Finds a hole in a wall nearby and crawls in the house, old fan is watching from a window in the next room over, door is blocked by a shelf]

• Fan Zeng: Thank heavens, it's you! I heard about the village and feared the soldiers would find me. So I sealed the door when I heard your approach... but now... I seem to have locked myself in here.
• Wei Yu's disciple: Don't worry. I'll find a way to get you out.

[destroys some vases and moves a shelf out of the way to enter the room fan zeng is in]

• Fan Zeng: Is everyone safe?
• Wei Yu's disciple: Chu Huan didn't make it...
• Fan Zeng: I'm sorry... I know how much of a brother he was to you...

[Moves shelves to reach the next room, which is the entrance]

• Fan Zeng: Break the lock and let us be out of here.

[he does just that]

• Wei Yu's disciple: We're gathering everyone at Yangzhou's back gate. Are you able to find your way there?
• Fan Zeng: Of course. But be careful, the Grand General may be involved with the village attack.
• Wei Yu's disciple: That's what Jing said as well... I intend to search his office. There's bound to be a record of military movements.
• Fan Zeng: Well, you're lucky he's out of town at the moment. Still, be quick about it and don't tarry
• Wei Yu's disciple: I'll see you at the back gate when I'm done.

Notify Chef Jiu Wei

[Protag finds Jiu Wei at the market]

• Wei Yu's disciple: Big Chef, there you are! This isn't the time to be bargaining. Our village was attacked by Qin soldiers!
• Chef Jiu: What, Qin soldiers? Why would they... is my family safe?
• Wei Yu's disciple: We don't know, but I'm asking everyone to gather at the stables near Yangzhou's back gate.
• Chef Jiu: Good heavens! I'll make sure to pass the news along.

[big chef leaves]

A Modest Invitation

[Protag arrives at Yanghzhou General's Residence and talks to the dude at the entrance]

• Wei Yu's disciple: I've come to see General Meng Tian.
• Attendant: Ah, the general is receiving other guests, so make yourself comfortable.

[to themselves, protag says]

• Wei Yu's disciple: I should wait for the general over there.

[approaches a table and goes to sit by it] As you near the table, a tense political between Meng Tian and Zhao Gao draws your attention. Zhao Gao leaves and you see Chu Huan's murderer escorting him. Enraged, you rush to intercept him, but Meng Tian's men mistake your intentions and leap to protect their general. [fight begins against 4 guards]

• Wei Yu's disciple: Get out of my way!
• Guard: Put your weapon down!

[kills them all and Meng Tian joins the fight, along with 2 other cannon fodder guards]

• Meng Tian: Stand down!
• Wei Yu's disciple: You can't let him get away!
• Meng Tian: I said stand down!

[the following three bloks occur randomly during the fight]

• Wei Yu's disciple: Just let me get to him!
• Meng Tian: I will not let you simply attack a government official!

• Meng Tian: Don't think that because you beat a Xiongnu Commander you can best me.[Commander is capitalized in the subs, for some reason]

• Wei Yu's disciple: Let me through or I will have to make you.
• Meng Tian: You're welcome to try.

Though you fare well against Meng Tian, he refuses to be defeated and draws from his reserves. He disarms you, but just before he can bring his blade down upon you, the Tianyan Stone around your waist glows brightly, imbuing you with the strength to deflect the oncoming blow with your dagger.

• Meng Tian: That... I recognize that glow. You know the spearmaster Wei Yu?
• Wei Yu's disciple: I am his disciple.
• Meng Tian: We fought side by side against the Xiongnu a long time ago. But what are you doing here?
• Wei Yu's disciple: My village was burned by men wearing the uniform of the Qin soldiers, So [sic] I came here to investigate. And because of you, the man that destroyed my village still lives. I could have killed him if not for you.
• Meng Tian: You mean you could have gotten yourself killed. That man, Duanhe, was with Zhao Gao, of the royal court. If you had attacked them... you would not be standing here. At least now you have the chance to do it right.
• Wei Yu's disciple: What do you mean?
• Meng Tian: Years ago, when the Xiongnu agreed to our terms of peace, They [sic] sent a convey of their people to show their sincerity. They were collateral, in case the Xiongnu broke the truce... and now they have. These Xiongnu are being rounded up in the city. If you want to learn more about Duanhe, that's where you can start.
• Wei Yu's disciple: What does a Qin military commander have to do with the Xiongnu?
• Meng Tian: Let's just say the Xiongnu have "stumbled" upon Qin military information one too many times for my liking.
• Wei Yu's disciple: Why are you telling me this?
• Meng Tian: Though we may not be allies, we at least share a common enemy. That is enough for me. Now go, my courtyard is a mess.
