| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''Eivor! You have arrived just in time!'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Is it Sigrblot already?'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''The days are long and the nights are warm and lit with fires.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''And it marks the beginning of raiding season!'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''We still need to finish gathering offerings for the gods so we can earn their favor. With their blessings we will have calm waters, good winds and much bounty!'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Gunnar must be busy forging weapons and army.'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''Yes, he aske to bring in an extra set of hands. Swinda has already set up her forge by the training ground.'' |
| | Sunniva points to her, who waves at them. |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''But weapons are not the only tools of war, Eivor. You must train your mind as you train your body.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Eager to see what this mind training would look like.'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''I would show you around but I need to get my offering ready for the bonfire. Check around the settlement to see what's needed. Perhaps you can make yourself useful!'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Am I not already useful?'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''O! Be sure to say hello to Norvid. But first, take this torch and mark the beginning of the festival!'' |
| | Eivor took the torch and lit the great bonfire in the middle of Ravensthorpe. |
| | |
| ===The War Effort=== | | ===The War Effort=== |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''I should see what needs to be done around the settlement.'' |
| | Eivor completed many tasks, among them catching a fish, helping Braun with the pigs, humbling Ake, helping Thyra with the sacrifice, collecting animal goods from hunting, calling a feast at the long house, applying a tattoo, finding the 3 War Letters in the Festival Area, looted foreign supplies from a river raid, bought something from Norvid's shop, defeated Alwin in Orlog and survived 3 rounds of Swinda's weapon testing. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''These offerings should satisfy the gods, the boat is full. I should return to Sunniva.'' |
| | Eivor met with Sunniva near the boat. |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''Eivor! You've shown yourself to be an inspiring leader. Look at the bounty you've gathered. It's time to make our offering.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''I enjoy our little festivals. A day where an escaped pig is our biggest worry is a good day.'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''I can't believe Braun got you to fetch his pigs! You shall have the honor of lighting the flame, Eivor. Come find me when you are ready.'' |
| | |
| ===Feeding the Wolf=== | | ===Feeding the Wolf=== |
| | |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Thyra, you've outdone yourself with this bonfire.'' |
| | *'''Thyra:''' ''It is my design but many hands helped to gather the wood.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''The gods will favor us when they see the smoke and all the offerings we've collected for them.'' |
| | *'''Thyra:''' ''Speaking of offerings, everyone has gathered their sacrifices and left them for collection at the shrines near the waterfall.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Are you about to ask me to act as collector?'' |
| | *'''Thyra:''' ''Eivor. You are our leader. Everyone looks to you to set the example in both war and in celebration. Also you are very strong and have a knack for carrying things.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''So my true value is as a pack horse.'' |
| | *'''Thyra:''' ''Would a pack horse be entrusted with choosing which god receives our offerings? Go and see what the people have left at the shrines. Choose only the offering that you think is best and return here.'' |
| | Eivor went to the shrines. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''It looks as though people left messages to the gods. I wonder who wrote what?'' |
| | |
| | [text in page] |
| | |
| | Eivor chose an offering and threw it into the bonfire. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''The offering has been made.'' |
| | *'''Thyra:''' ''Lift your torch and commit our offerings to the god of your choice.'' |
| | Eivor went to the statues nearby and chose a god. |

| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Each festival seems to bring with it more revelers.'' |
| | *'''Thyra:''' ''It would appear that Ravensthorpe is gaining a reputation for our celebrations.'' |
| | Eivor then went and collected some tokens. |

| | Eivor approached Ake. |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''I am surrounded by fools and brigands!'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''The long days have made you restless, Ake. You've become quick to solve problems with your fists.'' |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''What are you implying? Are you saying that I can't hold my own in a battle of wits?'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''No, that's not at all--'' |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''I'll have you know Alvis isn't the only flyting master here! We'll have a contest and I'll show you who has the winningest wit! Let's make it even more interesting and place a wager!'' |
| | (Accept - "I'll take you on!") |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''O, Ake. You will regret this.'' |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''How many tokens are you willing to part with?'' |
| | |

| | *'''Ake:''' ''Are you scared of a fight now, O Wolf-Kissed the Brave. It's high time someone stood up and made you behave. I'm the roughest, the toughest, the biggest, the best! If you think my ale's good, put my fists to the test!'' |
| | |
| | <tabber> |
| | |-|I'm adored far and wide. You whine and take up space.= |
| | |-|You're unpleasant indeed. Can you even swing a sword?= |
| | |-|While I fight and I bleed. You turn honey to mead.= |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''I traverse land and oceans, I fight and I bleed. You just sit on your arse turning honey to mead.'' |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''Hmph! I suppose that was rather good.'' |
| | |
| | </tabber> |
| | |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''So because I don't grandstand or boast just like you! You think being an apprentice is all I can do?'' |
| | |
| | <tabber> |
| | |-|A calm life is yours to choose. I draw blood, you nurse your brews!= |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Well, a quieter life seems a smart one to choose. While I'm out drawing blood, you're home nursing your brews!'' |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''You have quicker wit than I expected.'' |
| | |-|You make ale and lose fights. You should play to your strengths.= |
| | |-|Who cares if you're good, you'll soon lose! Back to your booze!= |
| | </tabber> |
| | |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''You don't know who I am, don't go doubting my skills! This is more than just wits, it's a battle of wills!'' |

| | |-|I'm a champion of wit. You could learn, just watch me.= |
| | |-|You are drunk or insane, with rank rot in your brain.= |

| | *'''Ake:''' ''O! You cut me to the quick!'' |
| | |
| | |-|Alvis can help you train. O! I forgot. He thinks you're a pain.= |

| | |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''Now you're trying my patience, so I'll end it here: You are as thick and as weak as a bad English beer.'' |
| | |

| | |-|With practice you'd be great. But I'm not keen to wait.= |
| | |-|In due time you'll be skilled. Til then, wait, lest you're killed.= |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''You've got talent at flyting, in time you'll be skilled. But for now, tame your tongue, for it might get you killed.'' |
| | *'''Ake:''' ''I have no choice but to admire that.'' |
| | |-|Do not feel ashamed. I'm someone who's iron-willed.= |

| | |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Now stop going 'round picking fights in my town. You may brew a good drink, friend, but I'll put you down.'' |
| | Ake nodded and left. |

| | |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Where is the barrel of mead, friend?'' |
| | *'''Braun:''' ''A seer warned me of a vision she had where I was a frog drowning in a vat of mead. Haven't had a sip since.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''So instead you're guarding empty pens?'' |
| | *'''Braun:''' ''I was hoping no one would notice but the pigs I bought for the offerings got loose after their cart crashed.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''I see where this is going. You want me to find and kill the pigs and bring back the meat.'' |
| | *'''Braun:''' ''What? No! No. They need to be alive for the offerings. Can you go gather them and bring them back?'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''And how would I go about doing that?'' |
| | *'''Braun:''' ''The farmer I bought them from said that if you whistle, they will come running. If they trust you, they will follow you.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''This feels like an errand for a child. Is Bertham not around?'' |
| | *'''Braun:''' ''Please, Eivor. Norvid gave me some of his tokens. They're yours if you bring back the pigs.'' |
| | Eivor sighed. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Very well, Braun. I will find your lost pigs.'' |
| | *'''Braun:''' ''Thank you, Eivor! May the gods favor you!'' |
| | She went on her errand, finding the cart nearby. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''This looks like the crashed pig cart. Tracks show they ran into the forest.'' |
| | Eivor found one of the pigs and whistled at him. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Here they are. Now to whistle and hope they trust me. I wonder how the farmer trained the pigs to follow a whistle?'' |
| | She found another and whistled. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Come on, pig! It's like you don't want to be offered up to the gods! It's an honor, I assure you.'' |
| | She found the last pig and whistled. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''It's raiding season and I'm shepherding pigs through the mud. Maybe Dag was right.'' |
| | She returned with the pigs to their pens. |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''That's one pig returned. I'm still not clear why he couldn't do this.<br>Two fat piggies playing in the mud.<br>That should be all of them. Eivor the Pigherder.'' |
| | She approached Braun |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Here you are. All your runaway pigs back in one piece.'' |
| | *'''Braun:''' ''Thank you! These boots are new and I couldn't bear the thought of them covered in mud! O, I have your promised tokens but I think you've also earned the right to choose which god will receive your offering.'' |
| | Eivor went to the statues nearby and chose a god by lifting her torch to them. |

| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Is it ready?'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''Everything you gathered is in the boat. They are preparing it now to be sent to the gods.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Which god will be receiving our bounty?'' |
| | *'''Sunniva:''' ''I leave that choice to you. You can send the offering to Thor, god of strength and thunder. Or our Lady Freyja the Beautiful.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''A difficult choice.'' |

| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Well met! I'm happy to have the extra help. Why have you set up at the fist-fight grounds?'' |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''Sunniva told me you would not mind if I used the fight ring to test my weapons. I have actually made a bit of a game of it. That way I can test my metal while your warriors practice for battle.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''Using real weapons? Do you wish to kill them before they set foot on the battlefield?.'' |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''Ha! No. There are rules to my tournament! You must yield once you've had enough and take time to heal. Was Sunniva wrong to let me set up this tournament?'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''No. No need to worry. We could all use some combat practice. Competition breed comradery.'' |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''Yes, comradery! In fact, everyone in the tournament must choose a second, an ally to fight by your side.'' |
| | *'''Eivor:''' ''I have a Jomsviking in the barracks who would make a fine ally.'' |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''Very good. I've prepared three different types of weapons for you to test. Are you ready to join the tournament?'' |

| | *'''Swinda:''' ''A true warrior! Also, the likely be unfair depending on your opponents and the weapons you choose. And remember, it won't be one on one. May the gods grant you luck!'' |
| | Eivor and her partner met with the pair they would be fighting against. |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''Fighters ready? Begin!'' |
| | The brawl started. |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''You two fight well together.'' |
| | The second round saw them going against three opponents. |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''Always more enjoyable with an ally!'' |
| | The final round round saw Eivor on her own, against two enemies. |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''Let's see how you do on your own.'' |
| | Eivor won the tournament. |
| | *'''Swinda:''' ''I give you the last drengr standing. Eivor of the Raven Clan!'' |

Mastery Challenge
A Challenge from the Gods
Eivor was at Ravensthorpe when a ball of fire crashed nearby.
- Eivor: What in the nine realms was that?
She went to investigate the crash site, finding an old woman there.
- Eivor: Careful, grandmother. Something fell from the sky to earth like it has been thrown by Odin himself.
- Hildiran: A strength he no doubt wished he possessed. No danger remains but look, it revealed something hidden in the mountain side.
- Eivor: Hmm. Looks almost like a door.
- Hildiran: If it is, then it's the door to something I have long been searching for. May I ask you for a kindness, drengr?
- Eivor: My name is Eivor of the Raven Clan, and that depends on how kind you need me to be.
- Hildiran: Will you grant me a home while I investigate the door, Eivor of the Raven Clan?
- Eivor: I don't make a habit of sheltering strangers.
- Hildiran: My name is Hildiran. There, now we are no longer strangers. Please. If I am right, then this is Freyja's Gate. Allow me to stay and I will help you discover the treasures that lay on the other side.
- Eivor: Very well. I'll give you a small piece of land to make a home on and supplies from our raids to build with.
- Hildiran: Thank you, kind Eivor. The Gods smile on you!
- Eivor: I may be kind but I am no fool. Everyone must pull their weight and I expect no less from you.
- Hildiran: A fair rule and one I can easily follow.
Eivor did as promised and visited the old woman once the house had been built. She found Hildiran around the back, in front of a statue of Freyja.
- Hildiran: Eivor the Kind! A welcomed visit. Like what you see?
- Eivor: You've certainly made this space your own. But how does this help you open a stone door?
- Hildiran: It is a shrine to Freyja. We will need her favor if we wish to reveal the hidden treasures.
- Eivor: Ah, it's "we" now, is it?
- Hildiran: I told you, Eivor, you will want to see what is on the other side. Now come, Freyja demands combat before she will aid us.
- Eivor: For a moment I thought you meant for me to fight you.
- Hildiran: Fear not, I can handle myself.
- Eivor: I cannot possibly fight you. I would kill you.
- Hildiran: You could try. Attack me.
Eivor threw a punch and Hildiran threw Eivor to the ground.
- Hildiran: Now get up and let's give Lady Freyja a fight!
They started a fight, using their fists.
- Hildiran: Fight harder, Eivor!
Yes! Give me everything you have!
- Eivor: This old woman fights like a young jomsviking!
- Hildiran: You're leaving yourself open to attack.
After a while, Hildiran stopped.
- Hildiran: Good. Now watch.
She produced a circular amulet from her clothes. Eivor looks at it and sees herself transported to another realm, with Hildiran gaining a Valkyrie's armor.
- Hildiran: Come at me again!
They fight, with weapons this time.
- Eivor: What magic is this? And how do you fight with the strength of a berserker?
- Hildiran: I can teach you, Eivor. But first, we fight!
- Eivor: These aren't my weapons.
- Hildiran: Are you already making excuses, drengr?
- Eivor: You fight with a fury I have not seen in Mercia.
- Hildiran: As will you, after my training.
- Eivor: How is this possible?
- Hildiran: Calm your mind of questions and concentrate on battle!
Once again, after a while, Hildiran stopped.
- Hildiran: Good. That was good.
She produced the amulet and they were returned to Ravensthorpe.
- Eivor: I have seen many strange things but nothing like this. What magic do you possess? I've not seen a seer fight like that.
- Hildiran: I am no seer. I am what you see before you, an old warrior eith a knowledge of secrets.
- Eivor: If that was not magic, then what was it?
- Hildiran: That was a battle meditation. You entered Hugrheim, the mind's realm. It is a secret form of training that not many know. You can attack full force with no fear of injury.
- Eivor: And yet you know this training?
- Hildiran: You're glad to have let me stay now, aren't you?
She gave Eivor the amulet.
- Eivor: Very much! Tell me, what part does the amulet play?
- Hildiran: It is a vessel. It needs to be filled with the energy created in battle. But it will only work with this type of shrine. They can be found all over Mercia.
- Eivor: I have many questions still.
- Hildiran: I promise you will get answers. But first, I have marked a shrine location on your map. Once there, enter a meditation. The amulet will pull you into Hugrheim.
- Eivor: And what happens when I finish my training?
- Hildiran: Then you return to me.
- Eivor: ...very well.
After a pause, Eivor continued:
- Eivor: Have you met Valka? Something of you reminds me of her.
- Hildiran: Go now, kind Eivor, and train!
She did as instructed.
- Eivor: This looks like the shrine she told me about.
Eivor completed the three challenges on Hugrheim.
- Eivor: My training is complete. I should return to Hildiran.
Back at Ravensthorpe, Eivor met with the old woman again.
- Hildiran: Eivor, you return.
Eivor gives her the amulet.
- Eivor: Here. I am done.
- Hildiran: You have done well. I have collected many treasures in my lifetime. I am willing to part with them, but only to drengr I deem worthy.
Hildiran gives the amulet back, after inspecting it.
Eivor perused Hildiran's wares, before making to leave.
- Hildiran: Feel free to return. As you continue your training by visiting more shrines, I will be able to gift you more powerful treasures.
The Cryptic Tutelage of Hildiran
Eivor went and completed more Hugrheim meditation challenges throughout Mercia before returning to Hildiran.
- Eivor: Hildiran, I return.
- Hildiran: Yes. Very good. Your skills are improving.
- Eivor: There is a reason I'm doing this, yes?
- Hildiran: Of course! All will be revealed once we manage to open Freyja's Gate.
- Eivor: What lies beyond? You seem to know much about it.
- Hildiran: I know much about many things, Wolf-Kissed.
- Eivor: You dodge my questions like they are arrows.
- Hildiran: You ask questions like you have a right to the answers. Keep training, Eivor. There is a reason to all of this. Patience.
Eivor went back to her training.
- Eivor: I am finally finished. These answers better be worth the effort.
Eivor traveled to Ravensthorpe.
- Hildiran: Eivor. You return.
- Eivor: I have completed my training.
She hands the old woman her amulet.
- Hildiran: So you have. Walk with me.
They walked towards the gate.
- Hildiran: I have been busy while you have been running around. The last of the rock has been cleared. Now you will see the full entryway.
- Eivor: This was here the whole tim? We built our settlement so close to it and had no idea.
- Hildiran: There are no coincidences when the gods are involved. Everything happens as needed.
Eivor approached the door and inspected it.
- Eivor: I cannot see how to open it.
- Hildiran: That is because Freyja built it so that only someone with the strength and will of the All-Father himself could open it.
- Eivor: Ah, so that is why you put me through so many trials.
- Hildiran: Exactly! Now, take this and hold it aloft.
The old woman throws Eivor the amulet. She does as instructed and the door slides open. They enter the cave, finding a main room with an orb on a pedestal and three caves in the back.
- Hildiran: There. That is what we have come for. Reach out and take the orb, Eivor.
The item starts glowing and floating for a bit before returning to the pedestal. Eivor grabbed it.
- Hildiran: Good. Now hand it to me.
- Eivor: What does it do?
She gave Hildiran the orb.
- Hildiran: This is Odin's Eye. It will act as a compass for us to find the next location.
- Eivor: Next location? This wasn't the treasure you needed?
- Hildiran: I do need it! It will lead us to Odin's vault.
- Eivor: I feel like I've been used.
- Hildiran: Maybe you have. But you are sstronger and now have access to my weapons and armor. Seems like it was worth it. Continue to train. Hugrheim will always be open to you. Visit me should you wish to see my collection again.
Hildiran left the cave.

Sigrblot Festival
Sigrblot Festival
- Sunniva: Eivor! You have arrived just in time!
- Eivor: Is it Sigrblot already?
- Sunniva: The days are long and the nights are warm and lit with fires.
- Eivor: And it marks the beginning of raiding season!
- Sunniva: We still need to finish gathering offerings for the gods so we can earn their favor. With their blessings we will have calm waters, good winds and much bounty!
- Eivor: Gunnar must be busy forging weapons and army.
- Sunniva: Yes, he aske to bring in an extra set of hands. Swinda has already set up her forge by the training ground.
Sunniva points to her, who waves at them.
- Sunniva: But weapons are not the only tools of war, Eivor. You must train your mind as you train your body.
- Eivor: Eager to see what this mind training would look like.
- Sunniva: I would show you around but I need to get my offering ready for the bonfire. Check around the settlement to see what's needed. Perhaps you can make yourself useful!
- Eivor: Am I not already useful?
- Sunniva: O! Be sure to say hello to Norvid. But first, take this torch and mark the beginning of the festival!
Eivor took the torch and lit the great bonfire in the middle of Ravensthorpe.
The War Effort
- Eivor: I should see what needs to be done around the settlement.
- Eivor: These offerings should satisfy the gods, the boat is full. I should return to Sunniva.
Eivor met with Sunniva near the boat.
- Sunniva: Eivor! You've shown yourself to be an inspiring leader. Look at the bounty you've gathered. It's time to make our offering.
- Eivor: I enjoy our little festivals. A day where an escaped pig is our biggest worry is a good day.
- Sunniva: I can't believe Braun got you to fetch his pigs! You shall have the honor of lighting the flame, Eivor. Come find me when you are ready.
Feeding the Wolf
- Eivor: Thyra, you've outdone yourself with this bonfire.
- Thyra: It is my design but many hands helped to gather the wood.
- Eivor: The gods will favor us when they see the smoke and all the offerings we've collected for them.
- Thyra: Speaking of offerings, everyone has gathered their sacrifices and left them for collection at the shrines near the waterfall.
- Eivor: Are you about to ask me to act as collector?
- Thyra: Eivor. You are our leader. Everyone looks to you to set the example in both war and in celebration. Also you are very strong and have a knack for carrying things.
- Eivor: So my true value is as a pack horse.
- Thyra: Would a pack horse be entrusted with choosing which god receives our offerings? Go and see what the people have left at the shrines. Choose only the offering that you think is best and return here.
Eivor went to the shrines.
- Eivor: It looks as though people left messages to the gods. I wonder who wrote what?
[text in page]
Eivor chose an offering and threw it into the bonfire.
- Eivor: The offering has been made.
- Thyra: Lift your torch and commit our offerings to the god of your choice.
Eivor went to the statues nearby and chose a god.
- Baldr
Beloved of All, God of Beauty, Champion of Light
Baldr is perfection made flesh and none may resist his natural charms. His goodness is so great he would sacrifice all to bring about a better world.
- Thor
Defender of Midgard, God of Storms, Bane of Giants.
None can match the sheer force of Thor's power and passion. Loud as thunder and more deadly than a lightning strike, monsters tremble at his approach.
- Freyja
Queen of Asgard, Goddess of Fertility, Mother of Magic.
Freyja blesses the brave with plentiful crops and healthy offspring. She favors those who practice magic and punished those who pervert it.
- Eivor: We offer this to you, Lady Freyja. May you grant us many riches on our raids.
- Eivor: May we find fortune and return safely.
- Thyra: You've done well, Eivor. You've represented our clan with humility and grace. I know that everyone appreciates all you do for us. You should check in front of people's homes. There might be tokens of thanks waiting for you.
- Eivor: Each festival seems to bring with it more revelers.
- Thyra: It would appear that Ravensthorpe is gaining a reputation for our celebrations.
Eivor then went and collected some tokens.

Fight or Flyte
Eivor approached Ake.
- Ake: I am surrounded by fools and brigands!
- Eivor: The long days have made you restless, Ake. You've become quick to solve problems with your fists.
- Ake: What are you implying? Are you saying that I can't hold my own in a battle of wits?
- Eivor: No, that's not at all--
- Ake: I'll have you know Alvis isn't the only flyting master here! We'll have a contest and I'll show you who has the winningest wit! Let's make it even more interesting and place a wager!
(Accept - "I'll take you on!")
- Eivor: O, Ake. You will regret this.
- Ake: How many tokens are you willing to part with?
- Eivor: I do not wish to take too much from you, Ake.
- Ake: Are you scared of a fight now, O Wolf-Kissed the Brave. It's high time someone stood up and made you behave. I'm the roughest, the toughest, the biggest, the best! If you think my ale's good, put my fists to the test!
- Eivor: I traverse land and oceans, I fight and I bleed. You just sit on your arse turning honey to mead.
- Ake: Hmph! I suppose that was rather good.
- Ake: So because I don't grandstand or boast just like you! You think being an apprentice is all I can do?
- Eivor: Well, a quieter life seems a smart one to choose. While I'm out drawing blood, you're home nursing your brews!
- Ake: You have quicker wit than I expected.
- Eivor: You don't know who I am, don't go doubting my skills! This is more than just wits, it's a battle of wills!
- Eivor: If you think you can best me, you're drunk or insane. I'm the cure for what ales you've got rotting your brain.
- Ake: O! You cut me to the quick!
- Ake: Now you're trying my patience, so I'll end it here: You are as thick and as weak as a bad English beer.
- Eivor: You've got talent at flyting, in time you'll be skilled. But for now, tame your tongue, for it might get you killed.
- Ake: I have no choice but to admire that.
- Eivor: Now stop going 'round picking fights in my town. You may brew a good drink, friend, but I'll put you down.
Ake nodded and left.
Three Big Pigs
- Eivor: Where is the barrel of mead, friend?
- Braun: A seer warned me of a vision she had where I was a frog drowning in a vat of mead. Haven't had a sip since.
- Eivor: So instead you're guarding empty pens?
- Braun: I was hoping no one would notice but the pigs I bought for the offerings got loose after their cart crashed.
- Eivor: I see where this is going. You want me to find and kill the pigs and bring back the meat.
- Braun: What? No! No. They need to be alive for the offerings. Can you go gather them and bring them back?
- Eivor: And how would I go about doing that?
- Braun: The farmer I bought them from said that if you whistle, they will come running. If they trust you, they will follow you.
- Eivor: This feels like an errand for a child. Is Bertham not around?
- Braun: Please, Eivor. Norvid gave me some of his tokens. They're yours if you bring back the pigs.
Eivor sighed.
- Eivor: Very well, Braun. I will find your lost pigs.
- Braun: Thank you, Eivor! May the gods favor you!
She went on her errand, finding the cart nearby.
- Eivor: This looks like the crashed pig cart. Tracks show they ran into the forest.
Eivor found one of the pigs and whistled at him.
- Eivor: Here they are. Now to whistle and hope they trust me. I wonder how the farmer trained the pigs to follow a whistle?
She found another and whistled.
- Eivor: Come on, pig! It's like you don't want to be offered up to the gods! It's an honor, I assure you.
She found the last pig and whistled.
- Eivor: It's raiding season and I'm shepherding pigs through the mud. Maybe Dag was right.
She returned with the pigs to their pens.
- Eivor: That's one pig returned. I'm still not clear why he couldn't do this.
Two fat piggies playing in the mud.
That should be all of them. Eivor the Pigherder.
She approached Braun
- Eivor: Here you are. All your runaway pigs back in one piece.
- Braun: Thank you! These boots are new and I couldn't bear the thought of them covered in mud! O, I have your promised tokens but I think you've also earned the right to choose which god will receive your offering.
Eivor went to the statues nearby and chose a god by lifting her torch to them.
Final Offering
Eivor met with Sunniva by the docks.
- Sunniva: Eivor. It is good you are here. We are ready to make our offering.
- Eivor: Is it ready?
- Sunniva: Everything you gathered is in the boat. They are preparing it now to be sent to the gods.
- Eivor: Which god will be receiving our bounty?
- Sunniva: I leave that choice to you. You can send the offering to Thor, god of strength and thunder. Or our Lady Freyja the Beautiful.
- Eivor: A difficult choice.
- Sunniva: Perhaps you should make the offering to the god who speaks most to you.
- Sunniva: Freyja. A fine choice. May she watch over us in foreign lands.
- Sunniva: The honor and glory is yours, Eivor. Take your place at the springald and light the flame that calls to the gods! Here is something to add to your enjoyment of Sigrblot. A gift from your clan.
Sunniva gave Eivor a brazier and an idol modeled after the god she chose. Eivor fired against the boat.
- Eivor: The offering is made. May the gods smile upon us!
Test Your Metal
Eivor approached Swinda.
- Swinda: You must be Eivor. I am Swinda. Gunnar asked me to help forge and repair weapons.
- Eivor: Well met! I'm happy to have the extra help. Why have you set up at the fist-fight grounds?
- Swinda: Sunniva told me you would not mind if I used the fight ring to test my weapons. I have actually made a bit of a game of it. That way I can test my metal while your warriors practice for battle.
- Eivor: Using real weapons? Do you wish to kill them before they set foot on the battlefield?.
- Swinda: Ha! No. There are rules to my tournament! You must yield once you've had enough and take time to heal. Was Sunniva wrong to let me set up this tournament?
- Eivor: No. No need to worry. We could all use some combat practice. Competition breed comradery.
- Swinda: Yes, comradery! In fact, everyone in the tournament must choose a second, an ally to fight by your side.
- Eivor: I have a Jomsviking in the barracks who would make a fine ally.
- Swinda: Very good. I've prepared three different types of weapons for you to test. Are you ready to join the tournament?
(Accept – Ready.)
- Eivor: I'm ready.
- Swinda: Good! Choose your weapon.
- Eivor: This has a good weight to it.
- Swinda: There are three rounds with no breaks in between and stop fighting if an opponent yields. Are you ready?
- Eivor: Ready and eager!
- Swinda: A true warrior! Also, the likely be unfair depending on your opponents and the weapons you choose. And remember, it won't be one on one. May the gods grant you luck!
Eivor and her partner met with the pair they would be fighting against.
- Swinda: Fighters ready? Begin!
The brawl started.
- Swinda: You two fight well together.
The second round saw them going against three opponents.
- Swinda: Always more enjoyable with an ally!
The final round round saw Eivor on her own, against two enemies.
- Swinda: Let's see how you do on your own.
Eivor won the tournament.
- Swinda: I give you the last drengr standing. Eivor of the Raven Clan!
She turned to Eivor.
- Swinda: You have certainly mastered that weapon. Here, some extra tokens, you deserve them.
War Games
- Eivor: Ah, Orlog. I know this game well.
- Alwin: Eivor! Do you want a match?
- Eivor: I didn't know you played.
- Alwin: I learned it from a Norse merchant and I've become quite good. I'd even say I'm the best player in Ravensthope!
- Eivor: A bold claim. I assume you're ready to back it up.
- Alwin: Always! Shall we play now?
(Accept - Let's play)
- Eivor: Let's do this, then.
- Alwin: Prepare yourself, Eivor!
Eivor won the game.
- Eivor: Too easy.
- Alwin: You have shamed me, Eivor! Can we play again so I can try to get my dignity back?
Legion
Synchronize
Bagley has downloaded a new Optik patch that allows users to find active ctOS hubs from a high point. Reach one of these locations to find one of these hubs.
- Bagley: Now this is interesting. There's a new Optik patch tied to certain high points in the city. I don't think this was ctOS-approved. I suggest reaching these spots to see what's been put in our Optiks.
The DedSec operative made their way to one of the spots and synchronized.
- Bagley: I'd say this new mechanic-- I mean patch was a success. Look at what you've unlocked!
- Audio File – Message from Lucas #1 This is a message for Darcy. I know I told you not to follow me, so I'm willing to bet you did the exact opposite. The Templars have run rampant in this city. They have agents everywhere. SIRS, Albion, even Clan Kelley. I'm marking intel where I can for you, or anyone else in the Brotherhood. We can take them on. We just have to try.
- Bagley: I'm not quite sure what that was about, but if it means fighting people already on our shit list, then I'd say it's worth pursuing.
Artifact Recovery: Royal Mews
- Audio File – Message from Lucas: Artifact Recovery Darcy, if you're listening to this, things are even worse here than I thought. The Templars have taken Assassin artifacts, keeping them locked away for no good reason. I tried recovering some of these artifacts, but they're tricky. The cases are equipped with a deadlock. The minute you're spotted, the deadlocks are activated. No way of opening them, not for a long while. You were always better at stealthing than me. I hope you can recoverr this stuff for the Brotherhood.
After an operative infiltrated the location at the Royal Mews and recovered one of Evie Frye's Cane-swords, they intercepted a message.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #1 Lucas. It's been two days already. Enough of this. I can't stick my neck out looking for you. It's bad enough if you get yourself killed, but it's really selfish of you to drag me down with you. We can't take on the Templars, not even if everyone we've got left marched on London together. The Assassins aren't strong enough yet. You've always been so impatient. Just stop being so damn sneaky, will you? Let me find you.
Cane Sword: A weapon of choice for the legendary Assassin Evie Frye. The weapon is rusted and damaged, no longer fit for combat.
Artifact Recovery: Leather Lane
After an operative infiltrated the location at Leather Lane and recovered Jacob Frye's necklace, they intercepted a message.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #2 Lucas, I hope you find this. I'm sorry we fought so much the day you left. I'm still really cross with you for running off to London and making me come after you, but still, I'm sorry. You were just being so stupid, I couldn't get through to you. Being an Assassin is not about running headlong into things. We take our time, hide in the shadows, wait for the right opportunity to strike. I guess I should've explained all that better, without yelling. But - but you should know all this already! Oh God, this is supposed to be an apology. I'm sorry. Please, let's go home.
Jacob Frye's Necklace: A necklace belonging to Jacob Frye, renowned Assassin and leader of the London gang known as "the Rooks".
Templar Bounty: Barbican Centre
- Audio File – Message from Lucas: Templar Bounty Hey, Darcy. I am finding Templars all over the city. They are secretive as hell, hiding in their offices, behind guards. I found one way to get them out in the open was to hack into their networks and just break everything. Let them know I knew who they are. Had to take on a lot of goons before the Templar came out, but it worked. Just a suggestion.
The operative hacked into the Templar's server.
- Bagley: I'm off to ruin this Templar's day. Be right back.
They corrupted all the data in the network.
- Bagley: All we had to do was break everything and everyone, but here's the Templar.
The operative neutralized the Templar and intercepted a message.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #3 Lucas, I know you have this bright idea about how "our ancestors single-handedly saved London from the Templars before, so whay can't we do it again", but there's more to the story, isn't there? They had a whole gang behind them. And help from another Assassin. Some of the most brilliant people ever born were their allies, and our ancestors still had a tough time fighting. We don't have anybody. Just the two of us. Not that I'm saying I'm helping you on this mad quest, but still, I've made my point. Our ancestors were nearly killed many times over. We could be killed just as easily.
- Bagley: That's one Templar who won't be Templaring around the place anymore.
Templar Badge: Commander : A badge belonging to the Templar Commander overseeing surveillance operations at the Barbican Centre.
- Bagley: Right. On to the next bit.
Re-Sync
The DedSec operative made their way to the viewpoint at FLVR Restaurant and synchronized.
- Bagley: Climbing to a high point to unlock icons on a map. How innovative.
Artifact Recovery: Rotherrhithe Docks
After an operative infiltrated the location at the Rotherrhithe Docks and recovered an Assassin Gauntlet, they intercepted a message.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #4 You know what, Lucas? Fine. Fine - get yourself killed. Let the Templars take you and do whatever they like. I've had enough of this. You are being so petulant! I am going to get out of this bloody city, regroup with the other Assassins, and we will reclaim London when the time is right. You're on your own now. Understand. You are on your own.
Assassin's Bracer: A bracer commonly used by members of the London Brotherhood in the 19th century. Finely crafted but worn with age.
Templar Bounty: Southwark Auto Conversions
The operative hacked into the Templar's server.
- Bagley: I'm off to ruin this Templar's day. Be right back.
They corrupted all the data in the network.
- Bagley: I suppose we've made an impression. There's the Templar!
The operative neutralized the Templar and intercepted a message.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #5 Hello, Lucas. All right, so obviously I haven't left London. Not yet, anyway. I was hoping you'd at least make things somewhat easier and come find me. Father was right, you're just as stubborn as he is. To be honest, I don't know if I can even go back, with or without you. We broke a deal made between the Assassins and the Templars. Just being in London is a death sentence.
- Bagley: There. That's one Templar who won't be Templaring around the place anymore.
Templar Badge: Seneschal : A badge belonging to the Templar Seneschal reviewing vehicle prototypes at the Southwark Auto Conversions facility.
Templar Bounty: Tidis Advanced Technologies
The operative hacked into the Templar's server.
- Bagley: Let's see, time to reformat this Templar's hardware. That'll annoy them.
They corrupted all the data in the network.
- Bagley: I suppose we've made an impression. There's the Templar!
The operative neutralized the Templar and intercepted a message.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #6 Will the Assassins take me back, with or without you? I don't know. Possibly. I just know I can't leave London without you. I don't want to. So I'll keep looking for you. Hopefully these messages and come to your senses and find me. We just need to leave, before we get into real trouble.
- Bagley: Well done. I'd hate to be that Templar's reconstructive surgeon.
Templar Badge: Starrick : An honorary badge belonging to the Templar tasked with monitoring drone development at Tidis.
- Bagley: I'm impressed. That wasn't a total disaster.
Enter the Assassins
DedSec have caught wind of the ongoing conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. This is bigger than anything DedSec has seen before. The only way to learn more is to follow the strange drone flying around London.
Track down the drone and download more data from it.
- Audio File – Darcy's Phone Call #1
Graham: Assassin. I seem to remember giving your Brotherhood the chance to leave London with what few numbers you had left. So imagine how disappointed I was to find out not one, but two Assassins had broken their promise.
Darcy: Trust me, I'm only here yo get my idiot brother back. So let Lucas go, we'll leave the city, and we can forget this whole thing ever happened.
Graham: Hmm, I don't think so. You see, I'm not as nice as my fellow Templars, and your brother has information that I want. If you're not out of the city by the time I'm through with him, I'll find you next. Have a lovely day.
The operative questioned what they just heard.
- Bagley: Ah, so you caught that as well. Weird shit alert. I'm not even sure what to make of it. We'd better discuss it in the safe house.
The operative made their way to the safehouse to ask Bagley what was going on.
- Bagley: How should I say this? I seem to have come across some sort of... ancient conflict. The recording you heard came from a strange drone flying around the city. The names of the groups in conflict are obvious enough: Assassins and Templars. But there is no record of either of them online, not even in the furthest fringes of the darkweb. So either these are LARPers with very active imaginations, or we are dealing with two groups that are older and more powerful that we can possibly imagine.
The operative suggested checking it out.
- Bagley: Good idea. Connie's been helping analyse the data I pulled from the drone. I'm sure she's champing at the bit to tell you more.
The operative thanked Bagley and went to talk to Connie Robinson.
- Connie: I've been following up on the few clues we got from that recording. Assassins. Templars. This "Lucas" fellow, and the strange drone we got the recording from. Not much to find on the first three, but that drone? It's a doozy.
The operative pressed her for more information.
- Connie: It wasn't made by any of the big weapons manufacturers. It's got no serial number, no identifying tags of any kind. I found a proxy to its schematics, and the design is mental. I also found enough GPS to put together a flight path. Whatever's going on here, it's big. You better find that thing.
The operative agreed and left to track down the drone.
- Bagley: There's the drone. I need to form a comms bridge before I can permanently access it.
They managed to retrieve around 50% of the data, when the drone let out an EMP.
- Bagley: I couldn't complete the bridge, but I was able to download part of the drone's cache history. This is the earliest entry.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #1 Darcy: Don't go, Lucas. If the Templars find you in London, they will kill you. None of us will be safe anymore.
Lucas: To hell with "safe". If our ancestors could go up against the Templars on their own, then so can I.
Darcy: God, I am sick of hearing about what heroes Jacob and Evie Frye were.
Lucas: Darcy, if you're not going to help me defend the tomb, then don't get in my way. Don't follow me, don't do anything. Goodbye.
- Connie: Finally, some information I can find online. Jacob and Evie Frye, notorious twin gangsters who took over London in the 1860s. Killed some industrialist called... [sigh] "Crawford Starrick". [laugh], all right, then. What about that tomb, though. I wonder what could that be?
The operative followed the drone.
- Bagley: Our analysis of the drone's flight path suggests it's in the area. Have a look around.
You found our drone friend! Time for another go at that comms bridge.
Once again it failed.
- Bagley: Couldn't quite seal the deal, but I did get us some more cache.
- Audio File – Message from Darcy #2
Darcy: I found you, you bastard. I know where you've got my brother and I'm coming to get him!
Graham: Well, hurry up, then. This doubles my chances of getting the location of the tomb before the day is out. I think I'll strap you into a chair next to your brother. I'm sying fot you to see what I've done with him. [chuckle]
Darcy: Keep talking like that, and I'll make sure your death is a painful one.
- Bagley: That conversation was recorded mere minutes ago. We may be able to lend a hand before it's too late.
The operative tracked down the drone once again.
- Bagley: There it is. One more download ought to do it.
They managed to establish the bridge.
- Bagley: Comms established. Hello? Anyone there?
- Darcy: You found me. About time. Making yourself traceable while still staying hidden is harder than it sounds.
The operative introduces themselves as part of DedSec, with Connie also joining in:
- Connie: We're here to help.
- Darcy: I guessed as much. I don't know anyone else capable of hacking and tracing like that. I assume you've heard what's been happening. If you want to help me save my brother, then meet me at this location. Face to face.
- Connie: So, Darcy: you and your brother are Assassins, and your brother's been taken by the Templars. How did all this start, anyway?
- Darcy: Sorry, I don't really have the time for a history lesson. Let's just say the Assassin Brotherhood stands for freedom for all, and the Templar Order... Does not. Although, I'm ashamed to say the Brotherhood has seen better days. There's only a few of us left, hiding outside the city. Meanwhile the Templars have a hand in nearly every part of London. All except the Tomb of the Assassins.
- Bagley: And while your group is on the ropes, your brother thought the best course of action was to come to London and stir up trouble. Sounds a lot like us, actually.
The operative found Darcy outside the Kennington police station.
- Darcy: DedSec and the Assassins. Did you ever imagine this happening? Lucas is being held by the Templars in that police station. I've been trying their security, but I imagine you're better suited for this sort of thing. If you can hack in and find my brother, I'll infiltrate and get him out. How does that sound?
The operative agreed and went to do their part.
- Bagley: We're approaching the access point for the police station.
- Darcy: Now that we're connected, I'll be able to see inside the building with you. Once I know where Lucas is, I'll take over.
They managed to find the central server.
- Bagley: There's the target. You can download from there.
If this Assassin is in the police station, we'll find him.
They then gained access to the camera feed for interview room 2XB, where they could see Lucas strapped to a chair and connected to a machine, while Graham paced in and out of camera view, talking.
- Graham: You know, maybe you can enlighten me about something. Why is it that time and time again, that the Assassins are reduced to nothing? Pirates, hermits, street thugs. All these brushes with extinction, you would think you people would learn from your mistakes? Hm.. I don't know, what's your take?
- Lucas: [breaths] I've already told you were the tomb is and what's hidden inside it. I would rather die than hear another word from you, you sadistic prick.
- Graham: Oh, we'll get to that, believe me. But first things first. I want you alive when my team finds a way into your precious tomb. I want you to watch as we claim the last Assassin stronghold for the Templar Order.
- Lucas: [coughs, exhales]
The machine lets out a long beep as Lucas passes away.
Graham touches his communicator.
- Graham: Keep searching the Buckingham grounds. We'll find a way in. And may the Father of Understanding guide us.
- Darcy: No! I'll kill him.
- Bagley: I don't think that will be wise. Security's been notified of our intrusion. Time to bugger off.
The New Creed
- Darcy: You ready? We've no time to waste.
- Bagley: Did a bit of research on that Templar we caught monologuing earlier. Seemed like a safe bet. Graham Westerly's his name, intelligence liaison to the Crown. He runs the SIRS office in Buckingham Palace and, it seems, has been hunting for the Tomb of the Assassins on behalf of the Templars. Westerly made his name overseas for his ability to extract information from detainees, along with their teeth and fingernails.
- Connie: One hell of a tosser to go up against.
- Darcy: If the Templars plan to take over the Tomb of the Assassins, then that's where I'll bring the fight. Westerly told his people to search the Buckingham Palace grounds. That must be where the tomb is Hidden. Meet me there and we'll find a way in.
The operative infiltrated the palace grounds.
- Darcy: Shit. We've got guards all over the place. Westerly's been busy.
- Bagley: I'm picking up some radio chatter from the guards. The entrance to the Tomb is behind a large stone slab that nobody's been able to move.
- Darcy: I can move it. I know I can. But first you have to help me clear out these guards.
Darcy and the operative neutralised the security team guarding the tomb.
- Bagley: That's all the guards down, but we need to buy Darcy more time. Scrambling the security system ought to do it.
They did so.
- Bagley: There we are. It's all up to you now, Darcy.
Darcy enters the tunnels behind the stone slab.
- Darcy: All right. You can do this.
She performed a leap of faith and continued deeper into the tunnel system.
- Darcy: I can't believe I've never been down here before. Uh, what's taken me so long?
She went into an open cave, with a locked door bearing the Assassin insignia and surrounded by statues marked with Isu script. She matched the symbols on the statues near the door to the ones furthest from it and the door opened, revealing the Tomb of the Assassins. The centrepiece of the Tomb are the statues of the Frye twins and Edward Kenway.
- Darcy: There they are. Evie and Jacob Frye. Lucas would've loved this. The other fella. Is that who I think it is?
Darcy used her drone to investigate more of the tomb, encountering smaller versions of the statues in the main room, again marked with Isu script. She matches the symbols in the main room to them, causing stone slabs to protude from the wall, making stairs to the upper level.
- Darcy: This place gets curioser and curioser. What other secrets are hiding down here?
Climbing up, she finds a glowing Isu door, that starts projecting holograms throughout the Tomb. Darcy follows their trail, collecting them along the way before returning to the door and opening it with a touch.
- Darcy: I wonder what's back here.
Inside the Vault, Darcy finds an Assassin outfit, which she dons.
- Darcy: I can't believe it. It fits.
As she leaves the vault, an explosion shakes the ground.
- Darcy: Anything could happen here.
From a distance, Westerly could be heard yelling.
- Graham: Scour the tomb! Recover the artifacts! The intruder is to be shot on sight! Understand?
- Darcy: Shit. If I don't get out of here, I am done for.
- Graham: The intruder is still here! Find her! She may have already found the artifacts!
Darcy dealt with the guards and found Westerly.
She assassinated him.
- Darcy: Down you go.
- Graham: You know, the whole "hood and robe" look hasn't been in for a few centuries.
- Darcy: Perhaps you don't understand what's happening here. I've killed you. You're dead.
- Graham: And I get to die having lived a successful life. Which is more than I can say about your cowardly Brotherhood.
- Darcy: Watch yourself.
- Graham: You know, I would have so much more respect for you and your people if you refused my offer to leave the city. If you just stayed and fought. Killing me won't change anything. The Templars are everywhere, and your Brotherhood is too scared to ever come back. You want my advice? Find better people to fight with- shouldn't be that hard.
Westerly passes away.
- Darcy: Oh Fuck him. He doesn't know what he's talking about.
Darcy neutralised the remaining Templar Guards inside the Tomb before leaving.
- Bagley: I have Darcy's signal.
The operative questioned what happened down there.
- Darcy: Westerly's dead and the Tomb is safe. For now. There's no way I can leave the city. If my ancestors could take on the Templars, then so can I. But I need a Brotherhood.
- Connie: Not to put anyone on the spot, but DedSec's a brotherhood of sorts, isn't it?
- Bagley: Brotherhood, sisterhood, siblinghood... whateverhood, really. If you're willing to stand up for the city, we're happy to have you. And I won't lie, it really doesn't hurt that you seem to be some kind of ninja with ancient superpowers. We definitely don't have one of those yet.
- Darcy: Hmm. I'll take it under advisement.
Incomplete
Octavian
[These are convos with octavian that aren't part of rivalry for the ages]
[I think you might be able to talk to him before building it]
Eivor provided the resources to have the museum built. After it was done, she found Octavian inspecting the museum.
- Octavian: Hmmm. I suppose it will do for the moment. Though it lacks the grandiosity of the Empire at its peak.
- Eivor: You don't like it?
- Octavian: It's not that. It's just not terribly Roman. It needs more. More relics, more statuary, more ... Rome! If you happen to find any distinctly Roman artifacts on your travels, bring them by. We can make something of this mess yet.
[THEN FOR SOME FUCKING REASON THEY ACT AS IF THEY NEVER MET????]
- Octavian: Salve, Eivor! We have not yet been introduced. I am Octavian Claudius Britannicus, a collector of Roman relics.
- Eivor: Quite a name you have.
- Octavian: If you are wondering what good I will bring to the settlement, you need only look to the greatest empire the world has ever known.
- Eivor: Yes, I have seen their great ruins. Always impressive.
- Octavian: But you have not seen them restored to their former glory! And I can help.
