The Southern Sporades is an archipelago in the southern Aegean Sea off the coast of Anatolia. Two of its most prominent islands are Kos and Samos, the birthplaces of the Greek physician Hippokrates and the Greek historian Herodotus respectively.[1]
Sparsely populated in the 5th century BCE, it is covered with dense pine forests and white, sandy beaches.[1]
