R-L is a new employee and researcher for Abstergo Industries' entertainment division. They were tasked to relive the memories of Edward Kenway in the Sample 17 Project, in preparation for a product that would feature him.

R-L was enlisted by John to hack computers, Animi, security cameras and servers around Abstergo's Montreal facility where they worked, in order to obtain information for the Assassins on Abstergo Entertainment's actions. R-L was also charged with couriering the information to Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings, who routinely collected the information in the building's lobby.

Eventually, Abstergo realized that there was a hacker in the facility, and around the same time, the Chief Creative Officer, Olivier Garneau, went missing. In response, Olivier's stand-in, Melanie Lemay, reluctantly imprisoned the facility's employees in bunkers in the basement, where they would continue their work until the hacker could be identified.

Subsequently, John raised R-L's security clearance so that they could leave the bunker, and was told by John to hack the main server in order to cover their tracks. Though successful, John tricked R-L into using a program which would transfer Juno's consciousness into R-L's body. He revealed himself to be a Sage, a reincarnation of Juno's husband, Aita.

When it transpired that Juno was still too weak to inhabit a body, John entered R-L's bunker while they were using the Animus and attempted to poison them, weakening R-L enough so that their body could host Juno. However, he was caught and killed by Abstergo's security guards. R-L passed out, however, as Melanie entered the room to see what was going on.

R-L later awoke in Melanie's office, and she apologized for imprisoning them, stating that she had believed R-L to be the hacker, until the attack and the information recovered from John's computer subsequently made her realize that he was the "culprit". After Melanie showed R-L the completed trailer for their product as a token of good will, R-L was allowed to return to work.

On the way back to the Animus, R-L was contacted by Shaun and Rebecca, who apologized for getting them into such a mess with John, and offered to recompense R-L if they continued to obtain information on Abstergo Entertainment.
