The entrance into the tomb

The Mycenaean Tomb of Ajax was the tomb of the mythological Greek hero Ajax, located on the Isle of Salamis.

During the Peloponnesian War, bandits took over the tomb. The Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the tomb in search of Ajax's golden feather at the request of Xenia[1] and also deciphered an ancient stele within.[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • In the myths, Ajax’s body was never brought back to Salamis from Troy and 2nd century geographer Pausanias would later attribute a giant skeleton found near Sigeion to that of Ajax.
