Maxime Gorm

Maxime Gorm (died 2017) was a former member of the Assassin Brotherhood who joined the Templar Order after being brainwashed by Warren Vidic and became Daniel Cross' war dog during the Great Purge. He was the son of Julia Gorm, a rogue Assassin and former member of Boris Pash's Bloodstone Unit active during the Vietnam War.

In 2017, an amnesiac Maxime was abducted and experimented on by Thomas and Alice Adler, who used an Animus to have him explore the genetic memories of his grandfather, the British Assassin Eddie Gorm, in search of an Apple of Eden.

Biography

Early life

Maxime was born in the late 20th century as the son of Julia Gorm, an Assassin who was a member of Boris Pash's Bloodstone Unit during the Vietnam War. Raised as an Assassin, Maxime was later kidnapped by Warren Vidic, the Director of the Animus Project at Abstergo Industries and a member of the Templar Order. Maxime was brainwashed and, like Daniel Cross, became a Templar agent.

By 2000, Maxime had become a high-ranking Templar commander, responsible for carrying out attacks on Assassin facilities as part of the Great Purge. On 6 December, he led the Templars on an attack on an Assassin training camp in Kyushu, Japan. This attack saw the killing of numerous Assassins, including the camp's overseer, Yuri.

Kidnapped

Sometime later, Maxime was stationed at the Abstergo Foundation Rehabilitation Center in Madrid, Spain, working alongside scientists Alice and Thomas Adler. After the destruction of the facility in 2016 by Callum Lynch, Maxime was kidnapped by the Adlers, who held him captive in their home until November 2017 and subjected him to Animus experimentation, having him explore the memories of his grandfather, Eddie Gorm. Despite the Adlers' best attempts, Maxime relived all of Eddie's life but came no closer to discovering the whereabouts of the Apple of Eden his grandfather had encountered during World War II.

When the Adlers received unexpected visitors, they left Maxime alone in the basement. Suffering from a severe Bleeding Effect, a distraught Maxime, believing himself to be Eddie, became confused about his identity after seeing pictures of his grandfather and the people from his memories. He realized that he was not Eddie but the Bleeding Effect had left him with amnesia, as he could not recall his own identity.

Making his way upstairs, Maxime revealed himself to the Adlers and their guests: Thomas and Alice's daughter Elisa and her doctor, Florent Carpentier. After explaining how the Adlers had been holding him prisoner, the meeting turned tense as Carpentier revealed himself to be the Assassin Tomo Sakagawa and tried to attack Maxime, only to inadvertently kill Thomas and Alice instead. Maxime, thinking Tomo was there to rescue him, thanked him for the assistance, only for the Assassin to reveal that Gorm was his intended target. Following a quick fight, Maxime overpowered and stabbed Tomo in the eye with a knife, then grabbed Elisa and fled from the incoming Assassins.

Captured again

Maxime and Elisa made their way to Tomo's car, where an Assassin ambushed them, but Gorm killed him and entered the car with Elisa. Driving away, Maxime discussed the recent events with Elisa as they debated where to head next. At that moment, Elisa's phone rang but when she answered it, she fell under the hypnotic control of Nathalie Chapman. Pulling out a pistol, Elisa suddenly held Maxime at gunpoint and demanded that he take her "home".

Maxime drove to a helipad in the Swiss Alps, where he and Elisa were greeted by Stanislas, who brought them aboard Nathalie's helicopter. Inside, Chapman reminded the amnesiac Maxime of his past and offered to help him regain his memories if he also assisted her in return. Left with little choice, Maxime accepted as the group arrived Nathalie's secret base in the Alps. There, Nathalie led Gorm to an Animus and instructed him to relive his mother's memories to uncover the fate of Boris Pash's Project BLUEBIRD research, claiming she would use it to lead humanity into a new era.

Death

After completing the task, revealing that Pash had surrendered his research to the Templars to save an infant Nathalie, Maxime left the Animus. Chapman then upheld her promise and told Maxime of his mother's later history as Agent "QJ/WIN" for the CIA. Without her father's research, Nathalie resolved to create her own version of Project BLUEBIRD and went to activate a machine powered by an Apple of Eden—the very same Apple that the Adlers had sought.

Meanwhile, Maxime was escorted by Stanislas and four other guards to his room. As he was being taken to the room, Maxime and his guards stopped once Elisa approached them, claiming to want to speak with Gorm alone. The guards aimed their guns at her in response, only to be suddenly attacked by Tomo, who had been hiding in a blindspot. Tomo promptly killed all the guards before rushing towards Maxime and impaling him with his Hidden Blade, finally achieving revenge for the death of his mother Yuri.
