The Mandarin's House (Portuguese: Casa do Mandarim) is a mansion complex located near the Church of Saint Lawrence in Macau, China.
History
In 1725, the mansion was being used by visiting Qing dynasty officials and their allies. That February, Madam Lee, a powerful merchant who controlled Macau's salt and sugar trade, moved into the Mandarin's House along with her guards. While infiltrating the complex to acquire the late sailor Hendrik's sea log that Lee had recently purchased,[1] the British Assassin Edward Kenway was forced to help Lee's guards fend off an attack by Shimazu clan ninja led by the Japanese Templar Shimazu Saito, who also sought the sea log and retreated after managing to steal it.[2]
The Mandarin's House continued to be used by Lee as her personal estate throughout the rest of the year, where she held meetings with her various allies, including Edward,[3][4] whose partnership with Lee was ultimately short-lived;[5] and later Fuma Sukuna's faction of the Shimazu clan, who sought Lee's help against Saito's faction.[6] The Chinese Assassins Xiao Han, Liu Qing, and Xue Yan also met with Lee at the Mandarin's House and convinced her to join forces to find the lost city of Angkor and its treasure.[7]
Behind the scenes
The mansion's appearance in Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple is an anachronism. The actual building was constructed for the Qing theoretician and reformist Zheng Guanying and completed only in 1869, 144 years after its appearance in the webtoon.[8]
