Kaldstad was the outermost region of the realm of Niflheimr, between its border and the mid-lands of Døkkerland.[1] Described as a realm utterly devoid of heat, Kaldstad served as an entry point and holding area for the newly-arrived dead, though those who would linger too long ran the risk of having their minds and memories taken by the fog.[2]
In Eivor Varinsdottir's visions of Odin's time at Niflheimr, the Isu battled his way through Kaldstad in his efforts to reach Hel at her castle, though also took the time to battle a dead shieldmaiden he encountered there.[3]
