Jing Lang (1686 – 1717) was a Chinese Templar, pirate, and a target of Edward Kenway in the early 18th century.
The daughter of a rebel, Jing Lang grew up fighting. As a young woman, she developed a talent for negotiation, and a knack for languages. She broke the ties with her family to serve as a military adviser for a Qing dynasty general, and ultimately performed so well, she was granted a diplomatic post. Using piracy as a cover for her political activities, she traveled the world, banding with any who might serve her ultimate desire for negotiated order.
In 1717, Edward Kenway assassinated her in order to collect a Templar key.
In 2013, her genetic memories were used as an Animi Avatar by the entertainment branch of the Templar company Abstergo Industries, to influence the general public via the Animus game console, under the title of the Orchid.
Trivia
- Jing is the pinyin transliteration of multiple Chinese surnames, the exact surname in this case being unknown. Likewise, Lang is a transliteration of various homophonic Mandarin words. However, the title of her Animi Avatar indicates that her name may perhaps be 蘭 (simplified: 兰) meaning "orchid," though it is properly transliterated as Lán.
