Jing Lang (1686 – 1717) was a Chinese Templar, pirate, and a target of Edward Kenway in the early 18th century.  Born to Chinese rebels, Jing Lang came into the world fighting, but survived to become a skilled diplomat with a flair for languages and a taste for discovery.  Lang married the son of a General in the Qing dynasty, joining the Templar order, but severing ties with her family in the process.  She served as a diplomatic advisor, until a shift in political tides provoked her escape into piracy.  Over the next decade, she crossed every sea, developing a reputation for brutality that preceded her into most conflicts.  In the West Indies she fell under the spell of a rumored cache of treasure, and feigned a romantic relationship with one time Assassin Vance Travers to gain access to it.  She might have succeded if not for Vance's brother Upton who felt something was up.  She questioned Vance's manhood for sending Edward to kill his brother, and when she witnessed Vance assassinated at the hands of Edward she fled only to be hunted down and killed by him, in her dying breath revealed the map was fake and that she was married with her husband having the real map; she died at age thirty.

Personality and Characteristics
Jing has proved herself to be Controlling and manipulative as such when she lured Vance to help her under the false pretense of a relationship despite being married, and saying Vance wasn't man enough to kill his brother; however, she has showed that she showed loyalty to her husband in her final words refering to the brothers as fools and her husband being better.
One of Abstergo Intertainment Developers feels she has hints of being a sociopath.

Jing Lang

Jing Lang (1686 – 1717) was a Chinese Templar, pirate, and a target of Edward Kenway in the early 18th century.

In 2013, her genetic memories were used as an Animi Avatar by the entertainment branch of the Templar company Abstergo Industries, to influence the general public via the Animus game console, under the title of the Orchid.

Final words

 • Jing: Imagine, the queen of pirates, Jing Lang, defeated for a fake map. I have been arrogant.
 • Edward: Really?
 • Jing: Yes. I stole the real one. Both halves. My husband has it.
 • Edward: Your husband?
 • Jing: A better man than these fools.

Trivia

 • Jing is the pinyin transliteration of multiple Chinese surnames, the exact surname in this case being unknown. Likewise, Lang is a transliteration of various homophonic Mandarin words. However, the title of her Animi Avatar indicates that her name may perhaps be 蘭 (simplified: 兰) meaning "orchid," though it is properly transliterated as Lán.
