Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, and previously known as Persia, is a country in the Middle East.

History

The Templars were active in the Achaemenid Empire, helping King Darius I overthrow the usurper Gaumata.[1] Persian Assassins were also present: in 465 BCE, King Xerxes I was assassinated by an Assassin also named Darius, marking the first recorded use of the Hidden Blade.[2]

Around 1090, Hassan-i Sabbāh began the public branch of the Assassin Order in the fortress of Alamut.[3] Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad fled to the fortress with his family when he was exiled from Masyaf in 1227. During his time living in Alamut, Altaïr discovered six Memory Seals beneath the fortress.[4]

Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was Shah of Iran from 1941 to 1979. In 1953, he allowed Abstergo Industries and the Central Intelligence Agency to overthrow Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh to protect their oil interests. Four years later, they helped Pahlavi begin SAVAK to goad his people into submission.[5]
