The Frye family was a 19th century British ennobled family who had an important role in the British Brotherhood of Assassins for the liberation of London from the British Rite of the Templar Order.

History

Protectors of Crawley

The roots of the Frye family took place in Crawley, a city in the south of England where the British Assassins installed after losing the control of London during the mid-18th century. At the dawn of the 19th century, the schoolmaster Ethan Frye became an Assassin and married another member of the Brotherhood, Cecily. Working together, they became high ranking Assassins and recruited George Westhouse, a mill worker in Crawley.[1]

In 1841, Ethan went in India to protect the Koh-i-Noor, a Piece of Eden created by the Isu. In Amritsar, he met the Indian Assassin Arbaaz Mir and they became close friends.[2] In 1847, Cecily gave birth to twins, Evie and Jacob but Cecily died of complications shortly thereafter. Depressed, Ethan couldn't raise his children who indirectly caused the death of his wife. He gave his twins to Cecily's mother and went to India to train Jayadeep Mir, the son of Arbaaz and Pyara Kaur. Even if the young Assassin was talented, Ethan knew that Jayadeep lacked of killer instinct. But as a mentor-pupil bond developed between the two, Jayadeep convinced Ethan to return in England to raise his children.[3]

Arriving in 1853, Ethan began to train his children in the ways of the Creed of the Brotherhood teaching them patience and to never let personal feelings get in the way of the mission. He also instilled in them a sense of social duty, teaching them to help the people achieve freedom rather than simply eliminating oppressors. Evie followed the lessons of her father and was concerned by the history of the Brotherhood and the search of the Pieces of Eden, preparing plan and acting steathly. On the contrary, Jacob prefered explored Crawley and acted as his please, improvising and brawling his way out from delicate situation. Even if his children weren't the same, Ethan though that each uniqueness could be an asset for the Brotherhood.[3]

Liberating London

In 1860, Ethan learnt that Jayadeep risked to be execute by the Brotherhood for failing to kill a target. Ethan saved his apprentice asking to the Indian Assassins to send Jayadeep in London as punishment. Without the permission of the Assassin Council, Jayadeep became Ethan's contact in the city which was under the control of the industrial Crawford Starrick, the Grand Master of the British Templars. In 1862, Jayadeep infiltrated the Templars, associating with the Templar Cavanagh. He discovered that the Templars searched an Apple of Eden during Metropolitan Railway excavation. But Cavanaugh discovered the true allegiance of Jayadeep after interrogating the Indian Assassin Ajay. He tried to reveale his mistake but flew before saying the truth. Ethan, the twins and Westhouse cornered Ajay beforre he committed suicide. Discovering the truth, Ethan saved Jayadeep from Cavanagh. The young Assassin refused to continue to work for the Brotherhood after he learnt that his friends were killed by the Templars. In 1865, after a visist from his parents, Jayadeep resumed his work for Ethan and changed of identity, becoming the curiosity seller Henry Green. He established a network of informations by allying with the orphans led by Clara O'Dea and associating with the police Sergeant Frederick Abberline.[3]

In January 1868, Ethan died of pleurisy. With their father's death, the siblings had a tense relationship, while Evie remomering her father's lessons, Jacob mocked them. Westhouse became the mentor of the twins and in February, the three Assassins went to Croydon to accomplish a mission. Jacob was tasked to kill the Templar industrialist Rupert Ferris while Evie had to assassinate the Templar scientist David Brewster and recovering the Apple of Eden. Although the siblings succeeded to kill their targets, Brewster's laboratory explosed before Evie could take the artifact. But she learnt that the Templar Lucy Thorne searched a Shroud of Eden in London. The twins asked to Westhouse to go to London to fight the Templars but he refused. After his departure, the siblings agreed to go to London without the permission of the Council.[1]

Henry Green meeting Jacob and Evie Frye

Arriving in London, the twins Frye entered in contact with Green, who explained that Starrick with his industries controled every steps of the city, the medical field, the transports, the politics and the informations. He also used a gang, the Blighters, to control the streets of London. With the inforrmation of Green, the siblings assassinated Templars in the city and helped the Sergeant Abberline by arresting some leaders of the Blighters. They also helped O'Dea by saving children who were forced to work in factories of the Templars. To fight the Blighters, Jacob decided to form his own gang, even if his sister was against the idea. Saving members of the Clinkers gang, the Assassins formed the Rooks and began to take strongholds from the Blighters. They first liberated the borough of Whitechapel from the Templar Rexford Kaylock taking his train as an hideout and recruiting members of the Blighters in the Rooks. The criminal bussinessman Ned Wynert entered in contact with the Assassins to have they support against his primary rival the Blighters. The twins also associated with Alexander Graham Bell who crafted for them new weapons and they helped him to sabotage Starrick Telegraph Company devices.[1]

While Jacob killed Starrick's lieutenants, Evie and Green searched the Shroud of Eden with the indices of Edward Kenway's journal. During her quest, Evie killed Thorne and recovered a key to open the box containing the Shroud. She also developed feelings for Green, which compromised a mission as she decided to save him rather than followed Templars who took plans leading to the location of the Shroud. Rememoring her father's view on personal feelings, she decided to don't work anymore with Green on the field. As Jacob brought chaos in the city after the assassination of his targets, Evie was forced to repair her brother's mistakes. The twins disputed about their methods and decided to finish their partnershi after a last mission to stop Starrick.[1]

The Assassins induction in the Order of the Sacred Garter

During a party at Buckingham Palace, Jacob killed Starrick's henchmen who took the place of the guards to assassinate the Queen Victoria and the head of Church and State. Evie found the plan of the vault under the palace where the Shroud was hidden, but Starrick stole the key to the artifact box during a forced dance with Evie. The Templars entered in the vault and Starrick wore the Shroud. The Frye twins attacked him but the artifact healed every flesh wounds he received. The Templars took the advantage on the Assassins, but Green interrupted Starrick which gave time to the siblings to attacked together the Grand Master, taking off the Shroud and killing him. The Assassins decided to let the Shroud hid in the vault, the twins resumed their partnership and Evie assumed her feelings for Green, who reciprocated them. Leaving the vault, the Assassins were received by the Queen who was informed by Abberline that they saved her life. As recognition, she knighted the trio into the Order of the Sacred Garter. As the Templars planned terrorist attacks on London, the siblings foiled their plan to kill the Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli and to explose the Palace of Westminster. The Queen asked for the Frye to help her to extand her empire, but they refused as it was not in accordance with the Creed.[1]

The Frye twins continued to act in London, investigating on paranormal activities with Charles Dickens and the Ghost Club, protecting the research of Charles Darwin, helping Karl Marx to improve the working class situation and investigating on mysterious murder with the young Arthur Conan Doyle. They also protected Duleep Singh who was targeted by the Templars and the East India Company as he tried to reclaim his throne.[1] In 1872, Evie and Green helped the Pikerton detective Tommy Greyling who tracked an American Templar in London.[4]
