Casimir Lai was a military musician of the French Foreign Legion who participated in the Battle of Camarón. Many died or were taken prisoner during this battle but Casimir was the only one to be rescued by reinforcements. His mission was to protect a crystal skull, which he smuggled out of Mexico in his drum.[1]
