Abstergo Madrid is an Abstergo Industries facility based in the Spanish capital.[1] The building was constructed around and upon a 12th century chapel.[2]
Under the supervision of Dr. Sofia Rikkin, the facility worked on innovations to the design of the Animus,[3] including an anchored iteration of the device which allowed the user to physically relive the genetic memories of their ancestors,[4] and a compact, portable version of the technology that offered greater mobility to the Animus itself.[3]
The building also housed the Abstergo Foundation Rehabilitation Center. Ostensibly a place where patients–held against their will–were treated as a means to find a genetic cure for violent tendencies, the Foundation was actually part of Alan Rikkin's decades-long machinations to unearth a specific Apple of Eden once wielded by the Spanish Assassin Aguilar de Nerha with the potential to suppress humanity's free will.[4]
Although the Templar Council of Elders was close to shutting down the project as an expensive waste of resources, the Abstergo Madrid building was destroyed in late 2016 when one of the Foundation's experiments, Callum Lynch, led a group of fellow likeminded Assassin descendants in a mass prison breakout.[4]
