Ziyad ibn Salih (Arabic: زياد ابن صالح; Chinese: 齊亞德·伊本·薩里; died c. 752) was an Arab general who served as governor of Samarkand under the Abbasid Caliphate. In 751, Ziyad commanded the Abbasids under caliph al-Saffah during the Battle of Talas, where they defeated the Tang army of the Anxi Grand Protectorate led by General Gao Xianzhi. Following the battle, Ziyad ordered his men to eliminate any surviving soldiers, but spare craftsmen in hopes of learning the papermaking techniques from them.[1]
