Wemba was a gravedigger for Saint Peter's Church in Wincester, England, during the late 9th century.
Around 877, a plot by Bishop Ealhferth had Wemba's friend Leof killed and his face burned off. Wemba witnessed this, but could not process exactly what had happened.
