The Upper Harbor was a port in the Harbiyah district of Baghdad, located in the northeast of the Khuld sub-district.
History[edit | edit source]
In the 860s, the Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq travelled to the harbor to meet Beshi, Ali ibn Muhammad's second-in-command among the Zanj rebels that Nur had maintained contact with. Contrary to what Basim expected, Beshi had no clue of Ali's whereabouts and was preparing to rescue the rebels who were being held prisoner at the harbor by the Caliphate guards.[1]
Basim helped Beshi free the rebels, who revealed Ali had been captured alongside them but had been separated from the group and sent to another site. One of the rebels then showed Basim the mark drawn on Ali's arms before Beshi led his men to regroup at the Water Mill outside the city.[1]
Sometime later, Basim returned to the Upper Harbor to perform an assassination contract on Ali's behalf. He located his target, who was a slave merchant arranging a shipment of human cargo. Per Ali's wishes, Basim burned him alive for the atrocities he had committed, fulfilling the contract.[2]
