The entrance to the tomb

The Tomb of Polybotes was an ancient tomb, allegedly the burial site of the Giant Polybotes, located within the northern region of the Greek island of Kos.

History[edit | edit source]

At some point during the 5th century BCE, a group of priestesses made the tomb their base. Their singing gave rise to rumours of sirens haunting the tomb, and these rumours in turn drew curious people to seek them out. The women trapped the people, including the fisherman Eurylochos and Leda, and used their blood in their rituals.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the tomb was explored by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, following a lotus flower wine induced vision Barnabas had had. She slew the priestesses, and freed Eurylochos, as well as deciphered an ancient stele.[1]
