Eurylochos

Eurylochos was a Greek fisherman living during the 5th century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

A fisherman with a love of poetry and music, Eurylochos couldn't resist when he heard there were sirens on the island of Kos, as their song was said to be sweet enough to die for.^[1]

Due to this, he followed the sound of what he believed to be the sirens' song into an old tomb near the Herb Fishing Village on Kos. When he realized his mistake, he could no longer escape. Trapped by the bloodthirsty women within the tomb, Eurylochos witnessed a woman escape, leaving behind an aulos that the 'sirens' claimed for themselves. Eurylochos himself remained, his blood repeatedly drained, boiled, and drank by the 'sirens' within the tomb, witnessing their rituals of nightly screaming.^[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, Eurylochos was finally freed as the Spartan misthios Kassandra slew the bloodthirsty priestesses within the tomb as she was looking for Leda at the request of Barnabas. Eurylochos briefly joined the crew of their ship the Adrestia,^[1] and found a friend in Polyphemos, a man living on Anaphi island.^[2]
