Rhine Fortification was a Frankish military camp build along the River Rhine in the northwestern part of the region, northeast of Fort Ehrenfels. It was protected by a medium-sized military force. In the 9th century, the Viking Vagn guided Eivor Varinsdottir and the crew of her longship Sea-Chariot to the location in order to raid it multiple times.[1]
