Port la Joye was one of three French strongholds in the North Atlantic at the time of the mid-18th century. Through these forts, the French exerted their control over the region. Port la Joye itself was located on the southern coast of Prince Edward Island.
In April 1752 in the midst of the French and Indian War, the Assassins Shay Cormac and Liam O'Brien met with Louis-Joseph Gaultier, Chevalier de la Vérendrye in Port la Joye regarding the clues to tracking down the Voynich Manuscript and the Precursor box. Based on Louis-Joseph's instructions, they sailed to Anticosti to meet with Le Chasseur, an ally to the Brotherhood who had a lead on the two artifacts.
Later in the war, the Shay Cormac, having defected to the Templars, and two British schooners attacked the fortress, using his ship, the Morrigan, to destroy its defenses before infiltrating it on foot. He then killed the fort's captain, thus claiming the stronghold for the Royal Navy.
