The murder of the Assassin undercover as Mary Ann Nichols

A British Assassin initiate (c. 1845 – 31 August 1888) was active during the Whitechapel murders and the first real victim of the Assassin turncoat and serial killer Jack the Ripper.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Sometime after the death of the British Templar Grand Master Crawford Starrick,[1] the Assassin initiate was recruited during her childhood by the Master Assassin Jacob Frye in order to rebuild the British Assassins. Along with other initiates, she was brought to India by Jacob to learn the fear tactics of the Indian Assassins.[2]

By their return in 1888, a fellow initiate Jack usurped control of Jacob's gang the Rooks and started operations to eliminate the Assassins.[3] In an attempt to stop his former student, Jacob sent his initiates to work undercover as prostitutes.[4]

After Jacob sent the real Mary Ann Nichols away from Whitechapel, he ordered the apprentice to assume her identity. The initiate then tried to assassinate Jack the Ripper in the morning of 31 August but failed, resulting in her demise.[5]

Inspector Frederick Abberline and Jacob's twin Evie Frye discovered her guise during their investigation, seeing an Assassin ring in the crime scene.[5] The initiate was buried under Nichols' name on 6 September 1888.[6]
