L'Anse aux Meadows was a Viking settlement on the island of Newfoundland, Canada.
History[edit | edit source]
Some time in the 970s, Leif Ericson was the first European to reach the shores of North America in what is currently known as Newfoundland. Although it is unclear whether he was part of the initial voyage, he was certainly a member of the Viking expedition that reached L'Anse aux Meadows, a settlement on the island. According to Viking myths and sagas, Ericson established a colony at Vinland.[1]
