Hunta, son of Hunta (died 873), also known as the Baldric, was a Palatinus of the Order of the Ancients' Wardens of War who operated in Anglo-Saxon England during the 9th century. He often frequented the marketplace of Ledecestre in Ledecestrescire.
Biography[edit | edit source]
An admirable drengr from Norway, Hunta fancied himself a skald, as his impromptu verses always drew crowds of Norsemen and Saxons alike. His popularity attracted the attention of The Order, and he soon joined their ranks. Soon after his initiation, he married into a rich Anglo-Saxon family with military power, and began using the family's resources to grant small favors to the soldiery to bring as many troops as he could under his influence.[1]
The Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir first heard his name among other members of the Order once she finished renovating the Hidden Ones' bureau in Ravensthorpe.[2] Upon investigating Ledecestre's marketplace, Eivor caught sight of her target, surrounded by many footsoldiers. Nonetheless, she assassinated Hunta in front of the market and ended his influence over the region.[1]
After his death, Eivor found a clue among his personal effects, leading her to the identity of another Order member, The Vellum. The first of two clues led Eivor needing to investigate the fort at Thieves' Warren atop the highest hill in all of Glowecestrescire, just north of the town of Glowecestre.
