Dun Báhlair was the arena of the Fomorian's leader, the giant Balor.
History[edit | edit source]
During the Isu Era, the Æsir lord Havi challenged Balor over the power the giant had after Balor killed Cú Chulainn. After a lengthy fight, Havi defeated Balor and retrieved the spear Gae Bolg from the giant's back as his prize.[1]
In the late 9th century, jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan took a potion from the druidic priestess Deirdre Na Linni, which she made after Eivor gave her all of the amber shards from the Children of Danu.[2] After drinking the potion, she relived the memory of Havi and Balor's fight in Dun Báhlair and retrieved Gae Bolg from where it was embedded in an etched stone after waking from the vision.[1]
