Eastern Barracks

The Eastern Barracks was a barrack located in the east of Azuchi Castle in Ōmi, Japan.

History[edit | edit source]

In the spring of 1581, Diogo walked into the barracks, where his lord Oda Nobunaga came to receive fealty from Sanada Masatoyo and his school. Interrupting Masatoyo, Diogo challenged Masatoyo and his students to a duel to win back Kamiizumi Nobutsuna's katana. Hearing Diogo out, Nobunaga allowed and commanded the duel, to which Masatoyo reminded the court of his previous champion defeating three of Nobutsuna's students.[1]

Diogo accepted the challenge and dueled against three of Masatoyo's students, whom he met and was beaten by earlier, to the death. Besting them, he regained his mentor's katana and was awarded to be Nobunaga's new samurai, under his new name Yasuke.[1]
