The Ayutthaya Kingdom was a kingdom that existed in Southeast Asia from 1351 to 1767, centered around the city of Ayutthaya in Siam (present-day Thailand). It is regarded as the precursor to the modern Kingdom of Thailand, and at one point was considered one of the three great powers of Asia, alongside China and the Vijayanagara Empire.[1]
In 1725, a group of mercenaries from the Ayutthaya Kingdom's jungles were recruited by the Japanese mercenary Nagamasa to help the Zhang Wei Union.[2] These mercenaries were present for the Union's battle against the East India Company and Admiral Zheng's fleet in the Strait of Malacca,[3] and again for another naval clash off the coast of Indochina, where they helped distract a Company fleet that was blocking the Union's path to the mainland.[4]
