Looking for The Quill, Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir started her investigation by asking The Quill's people, the lonesome children of Wincestre. When she arrived and started to question some children, Eivor caught sight of two children setting a haystack aflame. These two children were then chased by Anglo-Saxon soldiers and Eivor made sure to follow one of the children to find out what they know about The Quill. Eivor caught up with the child, who happened to be Aelwyn. After a small chat with Aelwyn, Eivor was then met by her partner, Wigbert. Wigbert was then shocked to see the Dane in front of him and took a step back. Before any more questions, two of The Quill's thugs saw and demanded from Aelwyn to give back what she took. Dealing with the thugs, Eivor was then told by Aelwyn that the thugs were from The Quill and that both children survived The Quill's clutches. Wondering where to find The Quill, Eivor asked the children once again for their help. Aelwyn then told Wigbert to give the item he stole from the previous thugs. The item was a key to the underground sewers and this, unintentionally, gave the location and final clue to the true identity of The Quill, Hilda. Wigbert was no longer seen after the last meeting. However, despite appearances, Wigbert and Aelwyn tricked and betrayed Eivor to The Quill beforehand. The key was a ruse to let Eivor come and then later be ambushed by Hilda and her guards. However, the plan was a failure as Eivor killed Hilda's forces and then assassinated Hilda herself. Thus, without Hilda, Wigbert, along with Aelwyn and the other children, were without their master, The Quill.

Wigbert was an Anglo-Saxon boy, who indirectly served as a spy and thief for the Order of the Ancients member, The Quill in the 9th century in Wincestre. He was the brother of Aelwyn, an Anglo-Saxon girl who worked as his partner in crime for The Quill.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Wigbert's childhood is unknown aside from that he'd been an orphan. His sister Aelwyn was found and then put to work for The Quill. Like The Quill's former work, Aelwyn was used as one of many children, who gathered knowledge by either stealing or spying all around Wincestre. Aelwyn eventually forced her brother Wigbert to help her with her work for the Quill.[1]

Two children, Wigbert and Aelwyn, were seen, setting a haystack aflame. Wigbert and Aelwyn were then chased by Anglo-Saxon soldiers, but as well by Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan. After Eivor found Aelwyn, Wigbert came in and was shocked to see the Dane in front of him and took a step back. After Eivor dealt with incoming Quill's thugs, Wigbert was told by Aelwyn to give the item he stole from the previous thugs to Eivor, who asked for The Quill. The item was a key to the underground sewers and this gave the location and final clue to the true identity of The Quill, Hilda.[1]

After Eivor defeated Hilda, Wigbert decided he wanted to do something good in life, and joined the church's teachings at Wincestre Seminary. At some point, Wigbert encountered Eivor again. He explained his sister went in hiding, but that he didn't want to join her anymore, and instead wanted to learn things. He also explained he was forced by Aelwyn to help her with her work for the Quill.[2]
