Patience, brothers. Soon we will reveal the secrets of Assassin's Creed: Pirates. This article has been identified as being out of date. Please update the article to reflect recent releases and then remove this template once done. |
The Ranger was a brig formerly owned by the pirate Benjamin Hornigold before passing it on to his colleague, Charles Vane.[1] Vane captained the Ranger for many years; at one point, he fought the Spanish Navy's Man O' War El Arca del Maestro in an attempt to capture her, but was quickly forced to retreat.[2] Vane's captaincy ended in 1718, when she was severely damaged in battle with the Royal African Company's slave ship Royal African Pearl. Following this, Jack Rackham led a mutiny against Vane, leaving him and Edward Kenway marooned on the crippled Ranger.[3]
The two captains spent an entire month adrift before the ship eventually ended up at Isla Providencia;[3] in their haste to get to shore, however, Vane and Kenway neglected to drop the anchor and the Ranger was wrecked on the beach, stranding them on the island for another four months.[4] Long after Kenway escaped the island, he later recovered the Ranger's figurehead for his own ship Jackdaw.[1]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Despite having a similar appearance to other pirate ships, the Ranger has many skulls and ornaments seemingly made of bone placed around the ship's hull.
- The Ranger is the only brig in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag not fitted with a naval ram.
- In cutscenes, the crew of the Ranger share the same character models as pirate hunters.
- If observed with a spyglass, the Ranger's level will be shown as 20, the same as the Benjamin.
- Despite being a brig, the Ranger does not have the short bowsprit specific to this class of ship. Instead, it has a long bowsprit similar to the Jackdaw.
- In Assassin's Creed: Rogue, during the memory "One Little Victory", a Royal Navy brig escorted by three gunboats was called the Ranger. This brig has the distinction of being the only Royal Navy ship whose crew can board the Morrigan by ramming it, much like the ones that the Assassins used.
