A talisman or amulet is an object ascribed with religious or magical powers with the intended purpose of protection for the individuals for whom they are made. They are often worn as portable objects in many ways, but can also be installed permanently in architecture. Often of small size, they can also be referred to as trinkets.

History

When the Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq pursued the Order of the Ancients in 9th century Baghdad, he carried and wore a number of talismans, some of which he bought from local merchants while others were treasures acquired by solving Enigmas throughout the city.

Both Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke collected a number of trinkets and amulets while opposing the Sanzoku Ippa, the Shinbakufu, and the puppeteer behind both groups, the Templar Order in Sengoku era Japan.

In the 18th century, numerous trinkets were scattered around the Davenport Homestead, the Frontier, Boston, and New York City. The Colonial Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton collected several of these and gave them to the man known only as "Peg Leg" in exchange for letters from William Kidd. These letters ultimately led to a map which revealed Kidd's treasure.
