The Red Hand was a criminal organization led and founded by Audun, Grigorii, and Ingeborg, members of the Order of the Ancients who operated as part of the Wardens of Law sect during the 9th century. Operating under the monikers of The Vault, The Needle, and The Firebrand respectively, their primary goal was to destabilize Jorvik and replace King Ricsige with one of their own.

Each member held high-ranking positions within the council of Jorvik, allowing them to use their influence to perform the activities discreetly without arousing suspicion.

History[edit | edit source]

During the 870s, the Firebrand censured and burned texts they deemed dangerous,[1] the Needle funded the organization by seizing goods as they passed through Jorvik's ports,[2] and the Vault oversaw the Red Hand's operations and planned to poison both the local nobility in Jorvik's council and King Alfred during a Yule festival.[3]

Despite their efforts to control the region, their plans were thwarted by the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, who hunted and killed the three Ancients at the request of her Hidden One ally, Hytham. With its leaders eliminated, the Red Hand was ultimately disbanded, ending its reign of terror over Jorvik.[4]
