"My people can't go without sleep any longer."
―Edyt to Eivor, upon arriving in Ravensthorpe.[src]-[m]

Edyt was a Scottish-Norse seer from the Isle of Skye who lived during the 9th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Not much is known about Edyt's early life, except that she was a childhood friend of the Norse seer Valka and her mother Svala. While Valka served as the Raven Clan's seer in Norway and later England, Edyt, deeply fascinated with dreams, the spirit realm, and the symbolism of passageways, chose to lend her services to the inhabitants of the Isle of Skye, where she hoped to find a strong connection to the spirit realm.[1]

In the late 9th century, Edyt travelled to the Raven Clan's settlement of Ravensthorpe to speak with Valka, after her island became plagued by nightmares. Presenting her case to Valka and the settlement's shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir, the latter agreed to help as best she could given the unusual circumstances, and accompanied Edyt to the Isle of Skye. There, the seer provided further details about the plague and suggested Eivor begin her investigation in Kiltaraglen. She also revealed that she would be at her hut near the town if Eivor needed additional help.[2]

After the nightmares ended, Edyt attended her cousin's wedding in Kiltaraglen and met with Eivor again. The two women talked about Valka's vision of Randvi being behind the nightmares, to which Eivor revealed that Randvi had never been on the island. Hearing this, Edyt expressed her relief that the vision had not come true and that Eivor did not have to part ways with a friend. As the party continued, Eivor and Edyt spent the night talking and celebrating the end of the plague of nightmares.[3]
