'''Shibata Katsuie''' (柴田 勝家, died 1583), also known as '''Gonruku''' (権六), was a [[Japan]]ese [[samurai]] and ''[[daimyō]]'' who was one of [[Oda Nobunaga]]'s most powerful generals during the late [[Sengoku period]]. She was the second husband of [[Oichi]], Nobunaga's sister, and remained married to her until their deaths at {{Wiki|Kitanosho Castle}}.

==Biography==
In his early life, he began his service under the [[Oda clan]], first serving [[Oda Nobuyuki]] around 1551. As one of Nobunaga's generals,<ref name="DB1"/> Katsuie led victorious campaigns against the [[Rokkaku clan]] under [[Shōtei|Rokkaku Yoshikata]] in 1570<ref name="DB2">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' — [[Database: Rokkaku Yoshitaka / Shotei]]</ref> and against the {{Wiki|Azai clan}} and {{Wiki|Asakura clan}} in 1573. Yet, he met opposition from warlord [[Uesugi Kenshin]] in Echigo. With this, the line of succession came into question, with [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Hashiba Hideyoshi]] advocating for himself with [[Oda Nobukatsu]]'s support while Katsuie backed Nobunaga's son {{Wiki|Oda Nobutaka}} to succeed. He implored his wife Oichi and her daughters to be taken in by Hideyoshi. However, Oichi let her daughters leave while she stayed to perish with Katsuie,<ref name="DB3"/> who burnt down the castle with him and Oichi inside.<ref name="DB1"/>
