Woody Shinnings, held captive by Evie Frye

Woody Shinnings was an English actor who lived in London in 1888.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Shinnings was an actor, working as an understudy for Richard Altman at the Adelphi Theatre in the City of London. In the autumn of 1888, around the time that Jack the Ripper committed the Whitechapel murders, Shinnings stabbed his co-worker to death outside the theatre. Inspector Frederick Abberline of the Metropolitan Police Service enlisted the help of the Assassin Evie Frye to bring him in. She managed to kidnap Shinnings and safely delivered him into Abberline's custody.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The description for Shinnings' Bounty Hunt erroneously refers to him as "Michael Stiff".

Shinnings' character appears to be loosely based on Richard Archer Prince, a real-life actor who murdered fellow actor William Terriss outside the Adelphi Theatre in December 1897.
