Wenis (died 48 BCE) was an Egyptian woman who lived in Sais during the 1st century BCE. With her son, she was among the many who were safely smuggled out of the city by the rebel Jeska when their lives were threatened by the reign of terror of Sefetu, Sais' governor.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 48 BCE, Wenis and her son's lives suffered under the iron grip rule of Sefetu, the governor of Sais where they lived.[1][2] Sefetu and his soldiers frequently pillaged the people of the Sap-Meh and Sapi-Res Nomes, torching all those who resisted him for which he earned the epithet "the Firebrand".[1][2]
Having taken it upon herself to save as many of Sefetu's victims as possible, the rebel Jeska smuggled Wenis and her son out of Sais later that year.[1]
