Walter was a boy who lived east of Oxeneforda, Oxenefordscire, Mercia in the late 9th century. He was the brother of Nel.
He and his sister would often play tricks on people. Once, his sister pretended Walter had been turned into a fish by a goblin in order to fool Eivor Varinsdottir into catching fish for the pair. Walter hid in some nearby bushes and once Eivor had caught enough fish, couldn't contain his excitement and left his hiding place. Eivor gave the pair the fish she'd caught and left.[1]
