Viking's Remains

The Viking's Remains is a heavy, two-handed sword foreign to France which happened to make its way to the country at the height of the French Revolution.
Description[edit | edit source]
To the French, the Viking's Remains is an exotic weapon with an atypical design. It is a heavy sword which required two hands to wield effectively for an average human being, and its long, cylindrical handle, demarcated into two sections by a ball at its midpoint, serves to accommodate this. This ball is identical to that of the sword's pommel and the guard, and as such, the entire hilt is characterized by these three orbs set at its two endpoints and its midpoint. So long is the hilt that it essentially comprises almost half of the entire weapon, with the blade not too much longer. The blade itself is double-edged and rather than tapering into a sharp point, its general profile broadens as it nears the tip and consists of two fullers carved into it.[1]
Among the deadliest swords of the 18th century in Paris, the Viking's Remains is capable of inflicting massive injuries with either end, even the blunt side. As with all heavy weapons, however, it could not be used for swift strikes on account of its weight.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
Though not of French origin, the Viking's Remains was available for purchase in Paris during the French Revolution for 25,000₣.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
In spite of its name, the Viking's Remains is actually based on a rare Indian two-handed sword from the late 17th or early 18th century.[2] This also calls into question whether or not the sword itself in Assassin's Creed canon is an antique Viking sword or an Indian one. Like all heavy weapons in Assassin's Creed: Unity, the Viking's Remains has the lowest possible stat for Range in spite of being longer than medium-sized weapons which are given superior Range.
