I can't remember where, but I read that they want to go to locations/time periods where is not visited much, Third Crusade in AC, Renaissance Italy in ACII. considering how the main chars speak english, my guess would be somewhere in England/United States. during any time during the Industrial Revolution since most games don't visit and it was the era that massive expansion happened
