Then I guess it's coming down to making sure the information was typed in correctly into the client. Many people who I helped in the past always spelled "xertion.org" wrong, and tried using the SSL port without enabling the SSL protocol in the client. If you were typing in 6697 as the port, did you make sure that you told it to accept the certificate and to use SSL for all servers? If those two boxes aren't checked, it won't connect. If you don't check those two boxes you have to use 6667 as the port number. My best guess is you're using either the Mac version of HexChat or the older XChat client. (They're both essentially the same program) or Colloquy. I'll have to get someone to update the walkthroughs to be a little more thorough when giving the step by step instructions. Maybe some of them are unclear.
