"The external clients don't work either" says someone who does not follow directions and/or didn't attempt them at all in the first place. IRC chats and clients have been around long before wikia and it's chat was ever thought of in 1988. It's been around since before the use of bittorrents and p2p filesharing programs and download sites. IRC will still be here long after these programs fall as well. It's really simple and easy to follow, especially when a web client is given to you directly. The timeouts are generally the clients (i.e. you) connection failing. I'm going to chalk this up as a P.E.B.K.A.C. error and go on about my day.
