The picture in this blog is of Ezio with dark hair; therefore, before Embers. There is no evidence disproving that Ezio was writing a letter in Embers as well. I also do not see evidence that Ezio decided to write something for future Assassins. The Assassins or templars would probably have found that by now, considering what happened to the Codex.
