Sure, the modern setting and first civilization may be "different" as you say but thaty doesn't neccesarily make the game better. The modern sections have always been terribly underdeveloped compared to the rest of the game. The characters are annoying/bland and the plot point to somehow "save the world from a solar flare or something" just fizzled out througout the series ESPECIALLY at the end. This all makes sense considering that the sci-fi sections were tacked on near the end of the development of the first game in order to make more sequels. Very few games let you play through history in the same sense Assassin's Creed does, THIS is the main draw to the series and what makes it unique. Not some crappy tacked on scifi elements that rarely serves the story.
