You are right. I liked the modern day element of the story, but I would do well without it...
What bothered me the most about was:
1) Desmond didn't become the "Ultimate Assassin" Patrice Desiléts once thought he would become as said in a previous interview he made when AC2 came out. No special equipment, no customized modern hidden blade, no nothing. Vidic's death in the Abstergo sequence was ridiculous. I was waiting for some dramatic fight and an epic death dialogue like when you assassinate a target in the Animus, afterall you were killing the MAIN ANTAGONIST of the game, but no, just a 2 second cutscene with the Apple...
2)First Civ... seriously, they should just stick with the normal Ancient Astronaut theory.. an old civilization like Atlantis or something that left hidden pieces of technology for man kind to use.. but then Ubi gave them too much spotlights and when they decided to add the "end of the world" crap they just crossed the line of no return... now the whole Templar vs Assassins conflict through history was useless... and if there's any modern day element in upcoming AC games.. well, I wonder what the hell they will come up with...
