As good as AC4 is, I do feel we need to go back to the roots, where the protagonist was an Assassin first and something else second, rather than the other way around.
In AC4, Ed is essentially a pirate for 90% of the game, and just has freerunning abilities waved away by the fact he's a sailor so he's nimble, and Hidden Blades because of a Templar. And the main strength and focus of the game is "do pirate stuff in the story, and do pirate stuff in the side activities."
I think returning to a character that's born into the order and trained by it like Al, rather than someone who gets tripped by fate and stumbles into being an Assassin would do the series good. Because it should be about the Assassins and Templars, not the adds like raiding ships for profit all the time.
Not saying I dislike AC4 for it, but the fundamental focus is really lost in the recent games.
