The Greeks seemed to believe they did, as did the Romans, Egyptians, Incans, Mayans, Aztecs, Sumerians. The list goes on and on.

Just saying.

Plus, you can believe in those "gods" even if you are an atheist, as the Templars are atheistic and they acknowledge that the First Civilization existed. Atheism simply means not believing in a supreme god or being. And they are not supernatural, just simply, more advanced than us.
